Objectives: Maxillary transverse deficiency is a common malocclusion frequently observed in orthodontic clinics. Miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) not only produces greater skeletal expansion but also offers advantages such as simple miniscrew implantation without flap elevation, enhanced patient comfort, and an expanded age range and indications for palatal expansion. However, the fixed connection between the expander and the miniscrews makes the expander difficult to remove, significantly hindering its clinical application.

Lactoferrin, a multifunctional glycoprotein with significant biological properties, presents significant potential for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. However, the effectiveness of oral Lactoferrin is limited by its susceptibility to degradation in harsh stomach conditions, reducing its bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. To address this challenge, this study employs Chitosan/Alginate microparticles to enhance Lactoferrin stability and antibacterial activity.

However, the optimal dose has not yet been determined, and high doses may cause systemic adverse effects. This retrospective study of 57 patients evaluated the safety and efficacy profile of oral minoxidil at higher doses (> 5 mg).
