Clinico-morphological data on 976 surgically-treated skin melanoma patients were analysed. Local recurrences were found in 5.4 +/- 0.7% of cases. Factors contributing to their development were the miscellaneous cell pattern of tumor, nodular form of growth, intradermal histogenetic type of melanoma and depth of invasion. A significant inverse correlation between the frequency of local recurrences and the degree of lymphoplasmocytic infiltration at tumor boundary was established.
