Phosphorus (P) fertilizer is an essential component of our food system with the majority of all mined P rock processed to make mineral fertilizers. Globally however P rock stocks are declining-both in quality and quantity-with poor P management creating a linear economic system where P is mined, globally redistributed into products and eventually discharged into the environment leading to eutrophication. To enable establishment of a circular P economy, whereby P can be recovered from waste for its industrial reuse, requires the development of effective P recovery technologies.

Repurposing First-Row Transition Metal Carbon Dioxide Reduction Electrocatalysts for Electrochemical Carboxylation of Benzyl Chloride.

ACS Org Inorg Au

December 2024

Department of Chemistry and Center of Excellence for Innovation in Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Bangkok, 10400, Thailand.

Carbon dioxide (CO) is an abundant and useful C feedstock for electrocarboxylation, a process that incorporates a carboxyl moiety into an organic molecule. In this work, three first-row transition metal CO reduction electrocatalysts, NiPDI (), NiTPA (), and Fe(salenCl) (), were explored as electrocarboxylation catalysts with benzyl chloride as a substrate. The cyclic voltammograms of all three catalysts showed current enhancements in the presence of benzyl chloride under a CO atmosphere.

Miniature spectrometer is powerful tool for scientific research and industrial inspection. Here, we report the fabrication of graded perovskite filters with tunable bandgap and their application in constructing miniature spectrometer. The graded perovskite filters were fabricated using a Finkelstein reaction between formed halogen ion with a preformed MAPbX film.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) has emerged as among of the undesirable drug effects, posing significant threats to human health. However, in clinical practice, there remains a shortage of dependable and pre-diagnosis tools for DILI. Numerous studies indicated that the elevated intrahepatic viscosity levels were closely linked to the onset and progression of DILI.

A two-step formal (4 + 1) annulation-dehydration reaction offers a convenient route to C2-arylated indoles and benzofurans. This reaction exploits the bifunctional reactivity of electron-deficient benzyl chlorides with -sulfonyl-2-aminobenzaldehydes or salicylaldehyde derivatives. The reaction tolerates both electron-withdrawing and donating groups on the substituted aldehydes, as well as variation of electron-withdrawing groups at the position of the benzyl chloride reagent.
