AI Article Synopsis

  • Both standard radiography and arthrography are crucial for diagnosing septic arthritis in infants by identifying specific physical changes in the hip joint.
  • Plain films can reveal issues like lateral subluxation, delayed femoral ossification, and abnormal femoral neck and acetabulum shapes.
  • Arthrography provides detailed insights into cartilage deformities and capsular contractures, helping differentiate between bacterial infection consequences and other conditions like avascular necrosis.

Article Abstract

Both standard radiography and arthrography are essential in the diagnosis of septic arthritis in infancy. Plain films demonstrate lateral subluxation, marked delay in appearance of the femoral ossification center, deformity of the femoral neck, and acetabular dysplasia. Arthrography shows cartilaginous deformity, subluxation, and contracture of capsular structures. These observations may distinguish the late sequelae of bacterial infection from other entities such as noninfectious avascular necrosis.

A drug-induced sarcoidosis-like reaction (DISR) is a systemic granulomatous reaction indistinguishable from sarcoidosis and is associated with the administration of a medication. It typically exhibits a temporal relationship with the initiation of the drug (an average interval of 22 months) and tends to improve upon its discontinuation. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists, including adalimumab, have been associated with the development of DISR.

Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) are rare but severe immune-mediated diseases with overlapping clinical manifestations. We present a case of a woman in her late 40s with rheumatoid arthritis who developed DRESS/HLH overlap syndrome after starting hydroxychloroquine and leflunomide therapy. Despite corticosteroid treatment, her condition worsened, necessitating etoposide therapy.

Low back pain is common in women, especially during pregnancy and puerperium. Septic sacroiliitis, a rare cause of back pain in the postpartum period can mimic other common causes of low back pain like muscle strain, urinary tract infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis and intervertebral disc prolapse. The proximity of the sacroiliac joint to the sacral nerve plexus results in septic sacroiliitis frequently presenting with symptoms mimicking intervertebral disc prolapse.

Introduction: Periodontitis is associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). One hypothesis posits that this connection arises from the formation of autoantibodies against citrullinated proteins (ACPA) in inflamed gums, possibly triggered by . We previously demonstrated an increased antibody response to arginine gingipains (anti-Rgp IgG), not only in individuals with severe periodontitis compared to controls, but in RA versus controls, with an association to ACPA.
