The lumped constant--a term in the operational equation of the Sokoloff tracer kinetic model for deoxyglucose that accounts for the difference in transport and phosphorylation between glucose and its analog, deoxyglucose--could potentially vary from normal to ischemic conditions in the heart. To test the stability of the lumped constant during ischemia, we evaluated the ratio of the extraction fraction for (F-18)-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) to that for glucose (a measure of the lumped constant if there is no significant dephosphorylation of FDG-6-PO4) and the rate constant for dephosphorylation of FDG-6-PO4 (k4*) in the isolated, arterially perfused interventricular septum of the rabbit during moderate and severe demand-induced and reduced-flow ischemias. The lumped constant and k4* in each of the four ischemic experimental conditions were found not to be significantly different from the value obtained from the nonischemic controls.

Subject-specific parameters in lumped hemodynamic models of the cardiovascular system can be estimated using data from experimental measurements, but the parameter estimation may be hampered by the variability in the input data. In this study, we investigate the influence of inter-sequence, intra-observer, and inter-observer variability in input parameters on estimation of subject-specific model parameters using a previously developed approach for model-based analysis of data from 4D Flow MRI acquisitions and cuff pressure measurements. The investigated parameters describe left ventricular time-varying elastance and aortic compliance.

In this paper, two ultra-wideband monopoles in a colinear structure are presented for application in remote terrestrial communication systems. The antennas consist of a loaded monopole with a hat and an elevated loaded monopole located in the upper position. All lumped loads are modeled as linear frequency-dependent components to approximate the practical component property for achieving ultra-wideband characteristics, since the constant value property of a component is only present in a relatively narrow band.

Neglecting the time intervals between sampling and biological testing can lead to misinterpretation of the hazards associated with advanced oxidation processes when assessed through bioassays. This study investigates changes in the non-specific toxicity of ozonated aromatic compounds and analyzes the factors such as temperature and light exposure influencing these changes during sample storage. The findings reveal a significant decrease in biotoxicity of ozonated effluents, ranging from 41 % to 83 %, within the first four days of storage at 22 °C under natural light exposure.
