Naloxone or physiological solution were injected in different doses to 11 baboons (Papio hamadryas) weighing 7-8 kg after bloodletting in a volume of 40% of the total amount of the blood. Naloxone effectively raised (in all the doses) the arterial blood pressure which dropped after bloodletting. The action of naloxone injected in small doses was more pronounced and had unique time parameters. Besides, the respiratory rate was also increased. Injection of nalorphine in a dose of 1 mg/kg produced a similar but a more demonstrable action as compared with naloxone in a dose of 1 mg/kg. A conclusion is made about the possibility of using the antagonists of opioid peptides on a clinical basis for the treatment of shock conditions. An assumption of an inconclusive role played by the subtypes of opiate receptors in the formation of shock conditions is also confirmed.

Lymphocryptoviruses (LCVs) are ubiquitous gamma-herpesviruses that establish life-long infections in both humans and non-human primates (NHPs). In immunocompromised hosts, LCV infections are commonly associated with B cell disorders and malignancies such as lymphoma. In this study, we evaluated simian LCV-encoded small microRNAs (miRNAs) present in lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) derived from a Mauritian cynomolgus macaque () with cyLCV-associated post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) as well as the viral miRNAs expressed in a baboon () LCL that harbors CeHV12.

This study investigates parasitic and bacterial pathogens present in Hamadryas baboons () and humans in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Fecal samples were collected from Hamadryas baboons ( = 999) from three city peripheries and humans from city centers ( = 1998) and peripheries ( = 1998) of southwestern and eastern Saudi cities. Parasitic examinations and bacterial cultures were conducted on these samples.

Importance: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in the elderly with the incidence rising exponentially after the age of 65 years. Unfortunately, effective treatments are extremely limited and definite diagnosis can only be made at autopsy. This is in part due to our limited understanding of the complex pathophysiology, including the various genetic, environmental, and metabolic contributing factors.

The oviductal fimbria is the first extraovarian anatomical structure that the cumulus-oocyte complex (COC) encounters, and is sensitive to sex hormone changes. The morphology, glycan pattern, expression of heat shock proteins (HSPs), estradiol receptor (ER), and progesterone receptor (PR) were investigated in the oviductal fimbria epithelium of the baboon () during the menstrual cycle. The morphology was investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy; the glycopattern was characterized using conventional and lectin histochemistry; HSPs (60, -70, -90), ER, and PR were localized immunohistochemically.

The consumption of high fat-high energy diets (HF-HEDs) continues to rise worldwide and parallels the rise in maternal obesity (MO) that predisposes offspring to cardiometabolic disorders. Although the underlying mechanisms are unclear, thyroid hormones (TH) modulate cardiac maturation in utero. Therefore, we aimed to determine the impact of a high fat-high energy diet (HF-HED) on the hormonal, metabolic and contractility profile of the non-human primate (NHP) fetal heart.
