The serum uric acid-to-creatinine ratio (UCR) may be a simple method for assessing xanthine oxidase overactivation, which may contribute to an increase in serum uric acid production and oxidative stress. In this study, we investigated the nonlinear association between the UCR and long-term mortality in patients with hypertension. Data were acquired from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database, and a total of 11,346 patients with hypertension were included.

The aim of this study was to evaluate how COVID-19 affected acute stroke care and outcome in patients with acute ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. We performed a retrospective analysis on patients who were admitted with acute ischemic (AIS) or hemorrhagic (ICH) stroke from September 2020 to May 2021 with and without COVID-19. We recorded demographic and clinical data, imaging parameters, functional outcome and mortality at one year.

Liver function affects the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of the functional liver imaging score (FLIS), assessed using gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, on long-term outcomes following hepatectomy for HCC. The FLIS was assessed in 235 patients who underwent initial hepatectomy for HCC.

The Salton Sea (SS), California's largest inland lake at 816 square kilometers, formed in 1905 from a levee breach in an area historically characterized by natural wet-dry cycles as Lake Cahuilla. Despite more than a century of untreated agricultural drainage inputs, there has not been a systematic assessment of nutrient loading, cycling, and associated ecological impacts at this iconic waterbody. The lake is now experiencing unprecedented degradation, particularly following the 2003 Quantification Settlement Agreement-the largest agricultural-to-urban water transfer in the United States.

One-year hemodynamic and clinical outcomes in self-expanding valves: Comparison of ACURATE neo2 versus ACURATE neo.

Cardiovasc Revasc Med

December 2024

Department of Cardiology and Catheterization Laboratories, Shonan Kamakura General Hospital, Okamoto 1370-1, Kamakura City, Kanagawa 247-8533, Japan. Electronic address:

Background/purpose: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with ACURATE neo2 showed better hemodynamic outcomes by mitigating paravalvular leakage (PVL) compared with ACURATE neo, and revealed promising one-year outcomes in single-arm studies. However, studies comparing the hemodynamic and clinical outcomes of the two valves are still scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the one-year hemodynamic and clinical outcomes between the neo2 and neo.
