Background: There is growing interest in use of transcutaneous spinal stimulation (TSS) for people with neurologic conditions both to augment volitional control (by facilitating motoneuron excitability), and to decrease spasticity (by activating inhibitory networks). Various electrode montages are used during TSS, with little understanding of how electrode position influences spinal circuit activation. We sought to identify the thoracolumbar electrode montage associated with the most robust activation of spinal circuits by comparing posterior root-muscle reflexes (PRM reflexes) elicited by 6 montages.

Background: The diabetic foot (DF) ulcer is the severe complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Sarcopenia is characterized as the loss of muscle mass and strength, resulting in the increased risk of fracture and physical disability. Sarcopenia may affect the foot-ankle function in DF ulcer patients, compromise the quality of life.

This study investigated the effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) for fibromyalgia-like symptoms including chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and/or gait impairment in twenty-five individuals with long-COVID. Participants were randomized to a high dose (intervention group, IG) or low dose (placebo group, PG) TENS device. Both groups received daily 3-5 h of TENS therapy for 4-weeks.

Addressing levodopa-unresponsive freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson's disease (PD) presents a significant challenge. A randomized double-blinded trial evaluated the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in conjunction with transcutaneous magnetic spinal cord stimulation among 57 PD individuals experiencing levodopa-unresponsive FOG. Patients were randomized to receive dual-site stimulation involving bilateral primary motor cortex of the lower leg (M1-LL) and the lumbar spinal cord, single-site stimulation targeting bilateral M1-LL alone, or sham stimulation for 10 sessions.

Introduction: Persons with non-ambulatory spinal cord injury (SCI) undergo immediate unloading of the skeleton and, as a result, have marked loss of bone mineral density below the level of lesion that is directly associated with increased risk of long-bone fractures. There is a paucity of research that has successfully implemented rehabilitation and/or exercise training interventions to mitigate bone loss after acute SCI or reverse bone loss that has already occurred in chronic SCI. This paper describes a research protocol to compare the effect of exoskeletal-assisted walking (EAW) alone versus EAW plus transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation (EAW+tSCS) on bone density, geometry and strength in a cohort of chronic SCI participants.
