Some seemingly irrational decision behaviors (anomalies), once seen as flaws in human cognition, have recently received explanations from a rational perspective. The basic idea is that the brain has limited cognitive resources to process the quantities (e.g.

Baseline and cumulative Chinese visceral adiposity index and diabetic kidney disease: A prospective cohort study.

Diabetes Obes Metab

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Environmental Stress and Chronic Disease Control & Prevention, Ministry of Education, Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, School of Public Health, China Medical University, Shenyang, China.

Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) makes up nearly half of all chronic kidney disease cases and is a major cause of mortality for people with diabetes. However, the study of the association of longitudinal Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) with DKD is still missing.

Methods: This prospective cohort study included 7874 diabetes patients from the Kailuan study.

The Evolving T Cell Receptor Recognition Code: The Rules Are More Like Guidelines.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Harper Cancer Research Institute, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA.

αβ T cell receptor (TCR) recognition of peptide-MHC complexes lies at the core of adaptive immunity, balancing specificity and cross-reactivity to facilitate effective antigen discrimination. Early structural studies established basic frameworks helpful for understanding and contextualizing TCR recognition and features such as peptide specificity and MHC restriction. However, the growing TCR structural database and studies launched from structural work continue to reveal exceptions to common assumptions and simplifications derived from earlier work.

It was assumed that only autogenous bone had appropriate osteoconductive and osteoindutive properties for bone regeneration, but this assumption has been challenged. Many studies have shown that synthetic biomaterials must be considered as the best choice for guided bone regeneration. The objective of this work is to compare the performances of nanohydroxyapatite/β-tricalcium phosphate (n-HA/β-TCP) composite and autogenous bone grafting in bone regeneration applications.

Accurate analyses of contact problems for rough surfaces are important but complicated. Some assumptions, namely that all asperities can be approximated by a hemisphere with the same radius and assuming a Gaussian distribution of the asperity heights, are convenient but may lead to less accurate results. The purpose of this work is to investigate these assumptions and analyze the conditions under which they are valid.
