Levels of delta-sleep-inducing peptide-like immunoreactivity (DSIP-LI) in rat plasma were measured by radioimmunoassay and found to exhibit a circadian rhythm that parallelled the normal rhythm for corticosterone. The maximal plasma levels of both substances were observed to occur at about 1700h. The lowest concentrations of DSIP-LI and corticosterone were detected at 2400h and 1000h, respectively. Exposure to constant levels of illumination abolished the rhythm of DSIP-LI. It is possible that the temporal parallelism between the levels of DSIP-LI and corticosterone may represent a functional relationship between both compounds.

This study developed water-dispersible γ-oryzanol (WD-OZ) using microemulsion system and assessed their absorption in rats. While γ-oryzanol itself is hardly soluble in water, WD-OZ exhibited high water dispersibility, and γ-oryzanol, along with its metabolites, was detected in rat plasma. These findings provide a solid basis for future application of the microemulsion-based approach to enhance the bioavailability of γ-oryzanol in food.

Arginine (Arg) is involved in tissue metabolism and regulates the immune function; thereby, achieving the detection of Arg is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Herein, dual ratiometric fluorescence sensors were prepared with the blue emission of levorotatory/dextrorotatory carbon dots (CDs) and the red emission of porphyrin (L/D-CDs-PP) for the sensitive and portable detection of Arg. Interestingly, L-CDs-PP and D-CDs-PP displayed not only the dual emission peaks at 493 and 650 nm but also different response modes to Arg; thus, they could serve as dual ratiometric fluorescence sensors to achieve the accurate and reliable detection of Arg, with the detection limit of 23.
