Phototherapy results in the conversion of bilirubin to more water-soluble isomers. Six clinically used phototherapy lamps which differ in their emission spectra have been compared in their ability to produce configurational and structural isomers of bilirubin in vitro. For all of the lamps, the initial rate of configurational isomerization was highly correlated (r = 0.969) with the intensity of irradiation falling within the bilirubin absorption band. The percentage of the total bilirubin converted to the configurational isomer at equilibrium was dependent upon the spectral distribution of the lamp, and was greatest (26.2 +/- 1.3%) with the special blue lamp, which has a narrow spectral output centered at 445 nm. The rate of formation of the structural isomer, lumirubin, was generally dependent upon the intensity of irradiation within the bilirubin absorption band.

The most common cause of rotator cuff injury is supraspinatus tendon tears (STTs). High-intensity laser therapy (HILT) has recently emerged as an important conservative treatment option. This study was designed as a randomised controlled trial in patients with partial STTs to compare the effects of HILT with those of ultrasound (US) therapy.

The unique characteristics of biological structures depend on the behavior of DNA sequences confined in a microscale cell under environmental fluctuations and dissipation. Here, we report a prominent difference in fluorescence from dye-modified single-stranded DNA in a light-induced assembly of DNA-functionalized heterogeneous probe particles in a microwell of several microliters in volume. Strong optical forces from the Mie scattering of microparticles accelerated hybridization, and the photothermal effect from the localized surface plasmons in gold nanoparticles enhanced specificity to reduce the fluorescence intensity of dye-modified DNA to a few %, even in a one-base mismatched sequence, enabling us to clearly highlight the single nucleotide polymorphisms in DNA.

Aims: To assess the robustness of 4D-optimised IMPT and PAT plans against interplay effects in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with respiratory motion over 10 mm, and to provide insights into the use of proton-based stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for lung cancer with significant tumour movement.
Materials And Methods: Fourteen patients with early-stage NSCLC and tumour motion >10 mm were selected. Three hypofraction regimens were generated using 4D robust optimisation with the IMPT and PAT techniques.

Cardiotoxicity, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), hypertension, hepatotoxicity, and respiratory problems occurring several months to several years post-chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy are increasingly documented by scientists and clinicians. Anthracyclines, for example, were discovered in the late 1960s to be dose-dependently linked to induced cardiotoxicity, which frequently resulted in cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Most of those changes have also been associated with aging.

Unlabelled: The characteristics of commercially available thermochromic ink pens have been studied and described since their appearance in 2006. The wide variety of brands and models now available warrants further study using an expanded sample size, to differentiate the general characteristics from specific characteristics. Herein, the ink strokes of 15 pens purchased in the province of Córdoba, Argentina were studied.
