Free cholesterol of plasma low density lipoproteins (LDL) and high density lipoproteins (HDL) of the rat was high and that of plasma very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) was low during the dark period of the diurnal cycle. Variations in the esterified plasma sterols were inconsistent. Free methyl sterols were high in all lipoproteins during the dark phase. Simultaneously, the incorporation of 14C-acetate into nonsaponifiable sterols and the concentrations of free methyl sterols and cholesterol in the liver were elevated.

Childhood obesity increases the risk of developing metabolic diseases in adulthood, since environmental stimuli during critical windows of development can impact on adult metabolic health. Studies demonstrating the effect of prepubertal diet on adult metabolic disease risk are still limited. We hypothesized that a prepubertal control diet (CD) protects the adult metabolic phenotype from diet-induced obesity (DIO), while a high-fat diet (HFD) would predispose to adult metabolic alterations.

Background: The search for new antifungal agents is critical due to the rising resistance of fungal pathogens to existing treatments. This study focuses on the synthesis and evaluation of a novel compound, 1-benzyl-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid (compound L1), as a potential antifungal agent.
Methods: Compound L1 was synthesized and characterized using a range of analytical techniques, including 1H^1H1H NMR, 13C^{13}C13C NMR, FT-IR, GC-MS, and X-ray single crystal diffraction (XRD).

While a longstanding method for identifying dinoflagellates, morphology alone can be inaccurate because of convergent evolution of truly different species toward a particular cellular shape. The dinoflagellate genus Togula is a case in point in that its type species Togula britannica was previously assigned to the genus Amphidinium based on morphology but was recently recognized as an independent genus following phylogenetic characterization. Chemotaxonomy can be a useful tool to complement the characterization of dinoflagellates by phylogeny.

Background: Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), previously defined as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), has been shown to be closely related to many environmental pollutants. Lately, we found methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), a new environmental pollutant, could increase NAFLD risk in American adults, which still needs more population epidemiological studies to verify, and its pathogenic mechanism is not yet clear.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among petrol station workers, diagnosed their MAFLD according to internationally recognised diagnostic criteria, assessed the potential association of MTBE exposure with MAFLD risk, and explored the miR-18a-5p/PXR/SREBP2 pathway as possible pathogenic mechanisms in male Wistar rats and HepaRG cells treated with MTBE.

Oxysterols, as metabolites of cholesterol, play a key role in cholesterol homeostasis, autophagosome formation, and regulation of immune responses. Disorders in oxysterol metabolism are closely related to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. To systematically investigate the profound molecular regulatory mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, it is necessary to quantify oxysterols and their metabolites in central and peripheral biospecimens simultaneously and accurately.
