The effects on urinary excretion of a 1500 ml daily load of three drinking waters with different ionic contents were studied in six normal subjects. Diuresis was similarly increased by the three waters of an amount equal to the load. Urine output of urea, creatinin, uric acid, phosphate, potassium, magnesium was not significantly modified by the three waters as compared to a control period. Natriuresis was significantly increased following the intake of the water which contained sodium as well as calciuria with the water containing calcium. Urine output of oxalate was increased by the three waters in correlation with the free water content of the load. This effect is probably due to a reduction in passive tubular reabsorption of oxalate since a similar effect was observed with an equivalent water load given by intravenous route. Nevertheless, due to the dilution of urine, the index of urine saturation for calcium oxalate was diminished by the three waters.

Background: Dysregulated GABA/somatostatin (SST) signaling has been implicated in psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. The inhibition of excitatory neurons by SST+ interneurons, particularly through α5-containing GABAA receptors (α5-GABAAR), plays a crucial role in mitigating cognitive functions. Previous research demonstrated that an α5-positive allosteric modulator (α5-PAM) mitigates working memory deficits and reverses neuronal atrophy in aged mice.

Method: We performed comprehensive human genetic and multi-omics data analyses to test likely causal relationship between EPHX2 (encoding soluble epoxide hydrolase [sEH]) and risk of AD. Next, we tested the effect of the oral administration of EC5026 (a first-in-class, picomolar sEH inhibitor) in a transgenic mouse model of AD-5xFAD and mechanistic pathways of EC5026 in patient induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSC) derived neurons.

Background: Promising elements of assistive technologies are available to help people with cognitive impairment in their daily lives. However, there has been limited research on how smartwatches can directly interact with persons who have cognitive impairments. We looked at the factors that affect the effectiveness of interventions provided via a smartwatch.

Background: When designing cutting-edge technology, particularly humanoid social robots, an essential consideration is understanding how individuals naturally engage in social interactions, shaping their relationships with technology and media.
Method: In pursuit of insights into the application of natural human behavior, specifically reciprocation, in human-robot interaction, an experiment involving 72 participants, involving facial electromyography, focusing on zygomatic and corrugator muscles, served as a tool to gauge users' emotional valence during interactions. The study assessed users' willingness to reciprocate a favor and measured compliance by tracking the number of raffle tickets purchased by users at the robot's request.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) occur widely in drinking water, and consumption of contaminated drinking water is an important human exposure route. Granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption can effectively remove PFAS from water. To support the design of GAC treatment systems, a rapid bench-scale testing procedure and scale-up approach are needed to assess the effects of GAC type, background water matrix, and empty bed contact time (EBCT) on GAC use rates.
