We describe a modified polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis method with which plasma proteins are excellently resolved in 4 h. We made a three-layer discontinuous gradient gel with concentrations of 80,60, and 45 g of polyacrylamide per liter of tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane/ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid/borate buffer, pH 9.2. Time and material needed in the preparation of the gel was greatly decreased, a well-resolved (22-25 bands) pattern was obtained in 1 h, and the gel slabs were easier to remove from the cell than were gels prepared according to the manufacturer's specifications. We saw a marked shift in the higher polymers of haptoglobin type 2-2 toward the cathode in this system, and also a clearly resolved double band of alpha2-macroglobulin in whichthe more anodal band appears to represent alpha2-macroglobulin/protease complex.

Background/aims: Low-intervention clinical trials have been established under the European Union Clinical Trials Regulation (EU 536/2014) which aims to simplify the conduct of clinical trials with authorized medicinal products. There is limited experience with conducting low-intervention trials. Therefore, this study aims to report on experiences and perceived (dis)advantages of low-intervention trials.

Vehicle speed measurement method using monocular cameras.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Computer and Information Engineering College, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Hohhot, 010000, China.

This paper proposes a method for fast and accurate vehicle speed measurement based on a monocular camera. Firstly, by establishing a new camera imaging model, the calibration method for variable focal lengths is optimized, simplifying the transformation process between the four coordinate systems in traditional camera imaging models, and the method does not need to restore the pixel coordinates to dedistortion. Secondly, based on the camera imaging model, a two-dimensional positioning algorithm is proposed.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the clinical benefits of the integrated optical and magnetic surgical navigation system in assisting transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TELD) for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent TELD for LDH at our hospital from November 2022 to December 2023. Patients treated with the integrated optical and magnetic surgical navigation system were defined as the navigation-guided transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (Ng-TELD) group (30 cases), while those treated with the conventional X-ray fluoroscopy method were defined as the control group (31 cases).

Descriptor for electro-oxidation of glycerol with high-efficiency bifunctional Cu-N single atom catalyst and coupled with hydrogen evolution/carbon dioxide reduction.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Laboratory of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, Institute of Theoretical Chemistry, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, Changchun 130023 China. Electronic address:

Electrochemical glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) presents a promising approach for converting excess glycerol (GLY) into high-value-added products. However, the complex mechanism and the challenge of achieving selectivity for diverse products make GOR difficult to address in both experimental and theoretical studies. In this work, three nitrogen-doped graphene-supported copper single-atom catalysts (CuN@Gra SACs, x = 2-4) were selected as the model system due to their simple structure, excellent conductivity and high structural stability.

The inherent challenges of robotic underwater exploration, such as hydrodynamic effects, the complexity of dynamic coupling, and the necessity for sensitive interaction with marine life, call for the adoption of soft robotic approaches in marine exploration. To address this, we present a novel prototype, ZodiAq, a soft underwater drone inspired by prokaryotic bacterial flagella. ZodiAq's unique dodecahedral structure, equipped with 12 flagella-like arms, ensures design redundancy and compliance, ideal for navigating complex underwater terrains.
