The authors analyse a series of 194 thymomas (epithelial tumours of the thymus gland) which were operated over a period of about 25 years. The long term prognosis (70% 5 year survival and 60% 10 year survival) is examined in terms of the anatomo-surgical stage of the thymoma, the histological type of the tumour and the presence of associated auto-immune diseases. The authors recommend a more rigorous classification which takes into account both the anatomo-surgical and the histopathological findings so that the indications for post-operative mediastinal irradiation can be extended in a attempt to reduce the rate of distant recurrence of these tumours.

Methods: Monthly data were collected from April 2020 to September 2023 during the reform period for a tertiary hospital on nine types of operational indicators, including average length of stay (ALOS), number of discharges, number of outpatient visits, percentage of discharged patients undergoing level III or IV surgery, bed turnover rate, inpatient essential drug utilization rate, low-risk group mortality, outpatient subaverage cost and inpatient subaverage cost.

The treatment of patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors is complicated by drug-sensitive activating L858R/T790M and L858R/T790M/C797S mutations. To overcome drug resistance, a series of furopyridine (PD) compounds were virtually screened to identify potent EGFR inhibitors using molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations based on the solvated interaction energy (SIE) method. Several PD compounds identified from virtual screening demonstrated the potential to suppress both wild-type and mutant forms of EGFR, with IC values in the nanomolar range.
