Body size declines are a common response to warming via both plasticity and evolution, but variable size responses have been observed for terrestrial ectotherms. We investigate how temperature-dependent development and growth rates in ectothermic organisms induce variation in size responses. Leveraging long-term data for six montane grasshopper species spanning 1,768-3 901 m, we detect size shifts since ~1960 that depend on elevation and species' seasonal timing.

Objective: In Barrett's oesophagus (BE), after radiofrequency ablation (RFA), the oesophagus can be repopulated with a stratified 'neosquamous epithelium' (NeoSE). While histologically normal, the origin and clonal make-up of this NeoSE is unknown. An increased understanding of NeoSE is important as some studies suggest that NeoSE is biologically abnormal.

Objective: Our objective of this study was to analyse all oncological clinical trials using regorafenib to create a complete risk/benefit profile for the drug.

Background: Creating a novel chemotherapy is costly both in time and capital spent for drug manufacturers. To regenerate what they've spent, drug manufacturers may attempt to repurpose their medications for new indications via clinical trials.

Super Partition: fast, flexible, and interpretable large-scale data reduction in R.

PeerJ

January 2025

Department of Population and Public Health Sciences, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, United States.

Motivation: As data sets increase in size and complexity with advancing technology, flexible and interpretable data reduction methods that quantify information preservation become increasingly important.

Results: Super Partition is a large-scale approximation of the original Partition data reduction algorithm that allows the user to flexibly specify the minimum amount of information captured for each input feature. In an initial step, Genie, a fast, hierarchical clustering algorithm, forms a super-partition, thereby increasing the computational tractability by allowing Partition to be applied to the subsets.

Background: Collaborative research consortia provide an efficient method to increase sample size, enabling evaluation of subgroup heterogeneity and rare outcomes. In addition to missing data challenges faced by all cohort studies like nonresponse and attrition, collaborative studies have missing data due to differences in study design and measurement of the contributing studies.

Methods: We extend ROSETTA, a latent variable method that creates common measures across datasets collecting the same latent constructs with only partial overlap in measures, to define a common measure of socioeconomic status (SES) across cohorts with varying indicators in the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes Cohort, a consortium of pregnancy and pediatric cohorts.
