Combined administration of protamine sulfate (Ps) and aminonucleoside (AN) to rats causes severe nephrotic syndrome and, histologically, focal glomerular sclerosis. These changes are more distinct than those produced by AN alone. While the exact mechanism of Ps acting on AN nephropathy is not known, marked hypocomplementemia was observed regularly after the Ps + AN injection, suggesting that complement is activated and consumed in the kidney. It is suggested that complement may play an important role in AN + Ps nephropathy.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe signalment, clinicopathological findings, management practices and the occurrence of comorbidities in feline diabetes mellitus (DM) in Germany.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using questionnaires and laboratory submissions to a commercial laboratory, Antech Lab Germany, between May 2021 and July 2022. Inclusion criteria were diagnosis of DM by the attending veterinarian and submission of a completed questionnaire besides blood samples.

The global challenge of water scarcity has fueled significant interest in membrane desalination, particularly reverse osmosis (RO), for producing fresh water from various unconventional sources. However, mineral scaling remains a critical issue that compromises the membrane efficiency and lifespan. This study explores the use of naturally occurring proteins to develop scaling-resistant RO membranes through an eco-friendly modification method.

Protamine sulfate is a standard agent used to reverse heparin anticoagulation during cardiovascular procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Although rare, it can be associated with severe adverse reactions. We present a case of a 68-year-old male with type 2 diabetes, who was on insulin lispro protamine and underwent elective CABG.

In this work, novel intrinsic electronic absorption (250-400 nm) with a molar extinction coefficient of 752 Mcm at 250 nm, arising from photoinduced electron transfer involving charged amino acid side chains and the polypeptide backbone, along with luminescence (300-500 nm) with quantum yield of 0.011 from subsequent charge recombination, was observed in salmon sperm Protamine (PRM). The absorption of PRM was attributed to the previously identified Peptide Backbone-to-Side chain Charge Transfer (PBS-CT) from the polypeptide backbone to the abundant cationic headgroups of Arginine in PRM, while the luminescence was believed to originate from charge recombination within the charge-separated excited states of PRM.
