Phenylmercuric acetate can be detected by horse liver acetone powder succinate dehydrogenase inhibition, using a mixture of 2-(4-iodophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-phenyl tetrazolium chloride (INT), sodium succinate, and N-methylphenazonium methosulfate as the chromogenic reagent. The simple cleanup involves extraction of phenylmercuric acetate in chloroform and concentration by evaporation. In the extract, the compounds in seeds or water could be separated and identified by paper chromatography in the field or laboratory at microgram levels with an acetone-water (70 + 30) solvent system.

Hydroxyl radical (·OH), taken as the most active and aggressive reactive oxygen species (ROS), plays an important role in cell redox regulation and ferroptosis processes. It is a great challenge to develop methods for highly selective and sensitive detection and imaging of ·OH. A new near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence probe was designed and synthesized by introducing 3-methylpyrazolone as the specific recognition moiety to the hemicyanine backbone of the NIR fluorophore , which formed with the hydrazine group.

Humans are exposed to potentially toxic mercuric mercury (Hg) and methylmercury (MeHg) by the ingestion of food, to the bactericidal vaccine additive thimerosal (THI), and/or to the antifungal compound phenylmercuric acetate (PMA) which is used in some lens cleaning ophthalmic fluids. While numerous HPLC methods have been developed to separate Hg and MeHg in environmental samples (e.g.

Background: Hyaluronidase is used as a reversal agent for hyaluronic acid fillers and to increase the diffusion of other medications after infiltration. Cases of hyaluronidase allergy have been described in the literature since 1984. However, it is still frequently misdiagnosed.

Beside partial coverage in three reviews so far (1994, 2009, 2019), there is no review on genotoxic studies dealing with mercury (Hg) and human exposure using the most usual genotoxic assays: sister chromatid exchanges (SCE), chromosomal aberrations (CA), cytochalasin B blocked micronucleus assay (CBMN), and single-cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE or alkaline comet assay). Fifty years from the first Hg genotoxicity study and with the Minamata Convention in force, the genotoxic potential of Hg and its derivatives is still controversial. Considering these antecedents, we present this first systematic literature overview of genotoxic studies dealing with Hg and human exposure that used the standard genotoxic assays.

3-Monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) is a food processing contaminant in some infant formula products and other foods in the United States. Although rodent studies have demonstrated that 3-MCPD and its palmitic esters have the potential to induce nephrotoxicity, our recent human cell culture studies using the human renal proximal tubule cell line HK-2 have not strongly supported this finding. Considering this disparity, we sought to examine whether changes in transporter gene expression on proximal tubule cells could be modulated by these compounds and allow us to glean mechanistic information on a possible indirect path to proximal tubule injury .
