Background: Loop diuretics help to manage the patients with edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease and hypertension. The patients taking loop diuretics may receive other medications to treat comorbidities leading to drug interactions.

Methods: The literature was searched in databases such as Medline/PMC/PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, EMBASE, Web of science, Ebsco, Directory of open access journals (DOAJ) and reference lists were used to spot relevant articles using keywords Drug interactions, Pharmacodynamic interactions, Loop diuretics, Bumetanide, Ethacrynic acid, Furosemide, and Torsemide.

The proarrhythmic effects of hypothermia in atria isolated from 5-HT-receptor-overexpressing mice.

Eur J Pharmacol

September 2021

Institut für Pharmakologie und Toxikologie, Medizinische Fakultät, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, D-06097, Halle, Germany. Electronic address:

We investigated whether hypothermia would be arrhythmogenic in mice that overexpress the human 5-HT receptor only in their cardiac myocytes (5-HT-TG). Contractile studies were performed in isolated, electrically driven (1 Hz) left and spontaneously beating right atrial preparations of 5-HT-TG and littermate wild-type control mice (WT). Hypothermia (23 °C) decreased the force of contraction in the mouse right and left atrial preparations.

Beta-adrenoreceptor antagonist (beta-blocker) poisoning is a common overdose which can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. To evaluate the effects of treatments for beta-adrenoreceptor antagonist poisoning. Searches were conducted across MEDLINE (1946-26 November 2019, Ovid); Embase (1974-26 November 2019, Ovid); and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL, to 26 November 2019) utilising a combination of subject headings and free text.

Aims: We investigated the association between potassium levels and 90-day all-cause mortality in atrial fibrillation or flutter (AF) patients co-treated with diuretics and rate- or rhythm-controlling drugs.

Methods And Results: During 2000-12, first-time AF patients treated with beta-blockers, amiodarone, sotalol, verapamil, or digoxin combined with any diuretic within 90 days post-AF discharge were included. Following co-treatment, a potassium measurement within 90 days after initiating diuretic treatment was required.

Objectives: To establish a unique sample of proarrhythmia cases, determine the characteristics of cases and estimate the contribution of individual drugs to the incidence of proarrhythmia within these cases.

Setting: Suspected proarrhythmia cases were referred by cardiologists across England between 2003 and 2011. Information on demography, symptoms, prior medical and drug histories and data from hospital notes were collected.
