Citrullinaemia was diagnosed in an infant who died at age 8 days. The clinical picture was of the disease in its acute neonatal form. A sib has a blood citrulline of 100 times normal and about 10% of normal argininosuccinic acid synthetase activity in cultured fibroblasts. Clinically he is normal with an IQ of 94 on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children.

Introduction: Neonatal seizures are the most common clinical manifestation of neurological dysfunction in newborns, with an incidence ranging from 1 to 5‰. However, the therapeutic efficacy of current pharmacological treatments remains suboptimal. This study aims to utilize genetically modified hamsters with hypertriglyceridaemia (HTG) to investigate the effects of elevated triglycerides on neuronal excitability and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Background: Alloantibodies for the Rh blood group are the most immunogenic antibodies found in the Chinese population, typically causing acute or delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions and fetal and neonatal hemolytic diseases. Autoantibodies are generally considered nonspecific, and approximately 50% of warm antibodies are secondary to a variety of diseases, especially hematologic tumors. In this case report, a rare autoantibody that mimics anti-C and anti-e specificity was identified.

Background: Griscelli syndrome (GS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by oculocutaneous albinism and variable immune dysfunction. Among three distinct types of GS, occurring due to different genetic mutations; GS type 1 presents with neurological manifestations, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) generally develops in GS type 2, and GS type 3 primarily exhibits oculocutaneous albinism. HLH, a life-threatening condition with excessive immune activation, may occur secondary to various triggers, including infections, and develop in different tissues, as well as in the testis, similar to Erdheim-Chester disease.

Background: Pneumatosis intestinalis (PI) is a rare radiological finding that may be associated with various diseases. In the neonatal period, it is considered pathognomonic for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Cow's milk protein allergy (CMA) is the main cause of allergy especially in term infants appearing following breastfeeding or consumption of milk-based formulas.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the accuracy of four neonatal illness severity scores for predicting mortality in persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN).

Study Design: This retrospective study included neonates diagnosed with PPHN between 2013 and 2022. The illness severity scores of four commonly used tools were completed for each infant: the Clinical Risk Index for Babies-II (CRIB-II), the Score for Neonatal Acute Physiology-Perinatal Extension version II (SNAPPE-II) in the first 12 h after admission and maximum oxygenation index (OI) and Vasoactive-Inotropic score (VIS) during the first 24 h (OI24max and VIS24max), 48 h (OI48max and VIS48max), and 72 h (OI72max and VIS72max) after admission.
