Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is an attractive bio-degradable plastic alternative to petrochemical plastics. Photosynthetic cyanobacteria accumulate biomass by fixing atmospheric CO, making them promising hosts for sustainable PHA production. Conventional PHA production in cyanobacteria requires prolonged cultivation under nutrient limitation to accumulate cellular PHA.

A Cytosolic Phosphoglucose Isomerase, OsPGI1c, Enhances Plant Growth and Herbivore Resistance in Rice.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Rice Biology & Ministry of Agriculture Key Laboratory of Molecular Biology of Crop Pathogens and Insects, Institute of Insect Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310058, China.

Glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (PGI), a key enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of glucose-6-phosphate and fructose-6-phosphate, plays an important role in plant growth, development, and responses to abiotic stresses and pathogen infections. However, whether and how PGI modulates herbivore-induced plant defenses remain largely unknown. The Brown planthopper (BPH, ) is a devastating insect pest of rice, causing significant damage to rice plants through feeding, oviposition, and disease transmission, resulting in great yield losses.

Blueberry plants are among the most important fruit-bearing shrubs, but they have shallow, hairless roots that are not conducive to water and nutrient uptake, especially under drought conditions. Therefore, the mechanism underlying blueberry root drought tolerance should be clarified. Hence, we established a yeast expression library comprising blueberry genes associated with root responses to drought stress.

Transcriptome and Metabolome Insights into Key Genes Regulating Fat Deposition and Meat Quality in Pig Breeds.

Animals (Basel)

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Animal Production, Product Quality and Security, Ministry of Education, College of Animal Science and Technology, Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun 130118, China.

Meat quality is a complex trait that exhibits significant variation across pig breeds, and the regulatory mechanisms governing pork meat quality are not fully elucidated. We compared the transcriptomics and metabolomics of the longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle between the Songliao Black Pig (SBP) and Large White × Landrace Pig (LWLDP) to investigate breed-specific differences in meat quality and underlying regulatory pathways. The results showed that SBP meat had a higher marbling score and backfat thickness, a richer color, a lower shear force, and reduced drip loss.

January 2025

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Medical Microbiology, Lund University, Medicon Village, SE-223 81 Lund, Sweden.; ConCellae AB, Bårslövsvägen 3, 25373 Helsingborg, Sweden.

Six novel Bifidobacterium strains H1HS16N, Bin2N, Hma3N, H6bp22N, H1HS10N, and H6bp9N, were isolated from the honey stomach of Apis mellifera. Cells are Gram-positive, non-motile, non-sporulating, facultatively anaerobic, and fructose 6-phosphate phosphoketolase-positive. Optimal growth conditions occur at 37 °C in anaerobiosis in MRS medium added with 2 % fructose and 0.
