Introduction And Hypothesis: Despite the prevalence of anxiety, its impact on postoperative pain remains poorly characterized. The present study was aimed at assessing the impact of preoperative anxiety on postoperative pain in patients undergoing pelvic reconstructive surgery. We hypothesized that greater anxiety would be associated with increased postoperative pain for patients undergoing pelvic reconstructive surgery.

Progress in Radiotherapy for Cholangiocarcinoma.

Front Oncol

April 2022

Cancer Center, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) originates from the epithelium of the bile duct and is highly malignant with a poor prognosis. Radical resection is the only treatment option to completely cure primary CCA. Due to the insidious onset of CCA, most patients are already in an advanced stage at the time of the initial diagnosis and may lose the chance of radical surgery.

Joint between-sample normalization and differential expression detection through ℓ-regularized regression.

BMC Bioinformatics

December 2019

Department of Biostatistics, University of Michigan, 1415 Washington Heights, Ann Arbor, MI, 48109, USA.

Background: A fundamental problem in RNA-seq data analysis is to identify genes or exons that are differentially expressed with varying experimental conditions based on the read counts. The relativeness of RNA-seq measurements makes the between-sample normalization of read counts an essential step in differential expression (DE) analysis. In most existing methods, the normalization step is performed prior to the DE analysis.

Portal hyperperfusion after major liver resection and associated sinusoidal damage is a therapeutic target to protect the remnant liver.

Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol

September 2019

Department of Visceral Surgery and Medicine, Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland.

Extended liver resection results in loss of a large fraction of the hepatic vascular bed, thereby causing abrupt alterations in perfusion of the remnant liver. Mechanisms of hemodynamic adaptation and associated changes in oxygen metabolism after liver resection and the effect of mechanical portal blood flow reduction were assessed. A pig model ( = 16) of extended partial hepatectomy was established that included continuous observation for 24 h under general anesthesia.

Otolaryngologic surgeries are frequent in children with eosinophilic esophagitis.

Ann Otol Rhinol Laryngol

May 2015

Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Objective: The aim was to study the prevalence of otolaryngologic surgeries in pediatric patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).

Methods: Retrospective cohort study at a tertiary care center. The type of otolaryngologic surgeries performed in patients with diagnosis of EoE was recorded during a 5-year period.
