The paper aims at evidencing the stimulating effect on hematopoietic stem cells exerted by the thymus extract "Leukotrophin", prepared by Ellem Laboratory, Milan, Italy. Investigation of the hematologic and histologic parameters allowed the follow up of alterations occurring in bone marrow, blood and tissues of the irradiated animals, treated and untreated as compared with the unirradiated and untreated controls. Regeneration was more active in the groups of animals irradiated and treated with Leukotrophin than in the irradiated and untreated controls. A maximal regeneration of the myeloid series, prevalently of the erythrocytic line, was found 9 days after irradiation.

Noninvasive in vivo imaging of macrophages: understanding tumor microenvironments and delivery of therapeutics.

Biomark Res

Macrophages are pivotal in the body's defense and response to inflammation. They are present in significant numbers and are widely implicated in various diseases, including cancer. While molecular and histological techniques have advanced our understanding of macrophage biology, their precise function within the cancerous microenvironments remains underexplored.

Lung tissue from human patients and murine models of sickle cell disease pulmonary hypertension (SCD-PH) show perivascular regions with excessive iron accumulation. The iron accumulation arises from chronic hemolysis and extravasation of hemoglobin (Hb) into the lung adventitial spaces, where it is linked to nitric oxide depletion, oxidative stress, inflammation, and tissue hypoxia, which collectively drive SCD-PH. Here, we tested the hypothesis that intrapulmonary delivery of hemopexin (Hpx) to the deep lung is effective at scavenging heme-iron and attenuating the progression of SCD-PH.

: Gastrointestinal diseases are a major cause of morbidity in common variable immunodeficiency disorder (CVID), clinically often mimicking other conditions including celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Hence, diagnosis of CVID remains challenging. This study aims to raise awareness and highlight histopathological clues for CVID in intestinal biopsies, emphasizing diagnostic pitfalls for the pathologist/gastroenterologist.

Abdominal wall endometriosis (AWE) is a clinical disorder with unknown pathogenesis with an incidence between 0.03% and 1% in women affected by cutaneous/scar endometriosis. We investigated the pathological, molecular cytogenetic and cell proliferation features of a primary AWE developed in rectus abdominis muscle in a patient without co-existing pelvic endometriosis.

The Role of the Tumor Microenvironment in T-Cell Redirecting Therapies of Large B-Cell Lymphoma: Lessons Learned from CAR-T to Bispecific Antibodies.

Cancers (Basel)

January 2025

RM Gorbacheva Research Institute of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Transplantation, Pavlov University, 191144 St. Petersburg, Russia.

T-cell redirecting therapies, which include chimeric antigen receptor T-cells (CAR-Ts) and bispecific antibodies (BSAs), have revolutionized the treatment of relapsed\refractory large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL). Expanding clinical experience with these advanced therapies shows the potential for the optimization of their use with combination or consolidation strategies, which necessitates the prognostic stratification of patients. While traditional clinical prognostic factors identified in the era of chemotherapy are characterized by limited value, the tumor microenvironment (TME) is becoming a new prognostic cluster.
