Three olivoretins, A, B and C (isolated from Streptoverticillium olivoreticuli), which are O-methylated teleocidin B isomers, were found to be biologically inactive. A fourth olivoretin, D, which has a free hydroxyl group and is identical to one of the four teleocidin B isomers, teleocidin B-4 (teleocidin B of Hirata) was biologically active. These findings indicate that the free primary hydroxyl group of teleocidin B isomers is necessary for activity. The effect on biological activity of the structural difference between des-O-methylolivoretin B (teleocidin B-1) and des-O-methylolivoretin C was also studied.

Salicylic acid is a member of benzoic acid derivatives, a group of compounds which have a backbone of C6C1 consisting of one carboxyl group and one (or more) hydroxyl group(s) attached to the aromatic ring. Salicylic acid is a signaling compound in systemic acquired resistance (SAR). An increased level of salicylic acid is found in the plant after a fungi's attack, which further induces the accumulation of phytoalexins, low molecular weight defense compounds.

The pretreatment with green deep eutectic solvents (DESs) is conducive to realizing the high-efficiency utilization of lignin at a low cost. In this study, an innovative choline chloride/urea/calcium hydroxide (ChCl/UR/Ca(OH)) DES containing a reversibly-soluble base Ca(OH) was developed for the pretreatment of enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (EHL). The lignin pretreatment effects of the proposed ChCl/UR/Ca(OH) DES were compare with a series of DESs.

The preparation of food-grade oxidized starch with eco-friendly ozone (O) as oxidant is limited by low mass transfer and reaction efficiency. This study proposed a porous spontaneously polarized ceramic-reinforced O micro-nano bubbles (PSPC-OMNB) technology to prepare oxidized cassava starch (PSPC-OMCS). Meanwhile, reaction uniformity, physicochemical properties, and formation mechanisms were emphasized for comprehensive investigation.

Though reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) to Cr(III) by dissolved organic matter (DOM) is critical for the remediation of polluted soils, the effects of DOM chemodiversity and underlying mechanisms are not fully elucidated yet. Here, Cr(VI) reduction and immobilization mediated by microbial byproduct (MBP)- and humic acid (HA)-like components in (hot) water-soluble organic matter (WSOM), (H)WSOM, from four soil samples in tropical and subtropical regions of China were investigated. It demonstrates that Cr(VI) reduction capacity decreases in the order WSOM > HWSOM and MBP-enriched DOM > HA-enriched DOM due to the higher contents of low molecular weight saturated compounds and CHO molecules in the former.

The utilization of cyanobacteria toxin-producing blooms for metal ions adsorption has garnered significant attention over the last decade. This study investigates the efficacy of dead cells from Microcystis aeruginosa blooms, collected from agricultural drainage water reservoir, in removing of cadmium, lead, and zinc ions from aqueous solutions, and simultaneously addressing the mitigation of toxin-producing M. aeruginosa bloom.
