The induction of meiosis reinitiation by steroid hormones (progesterone and testosterone) in Xenopus laevis oocytes was studied in vitro in presence of inhibitors of phosphatase activity such as beta-glycerophosphate, considered as a competitive inhibitor, and the two ions, Zn++ and MoO--4. Kinetics of the germinal vesicle breakdown indicating the reinitiation of meiosis, have shown that while these phosphatase inhibitors were not active by themselves under the present experimental conditions, they enhanced the process elicited by progesterone or testosterone.

Background: Endogenous sex hormones in postmenopausal women have been associated with risk of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to determine the association between endogenous sex hormones and the revised Framingham Stroke Risk Profile (rFSRP) in postmenopausal women.
Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study on the Vara-Skövde cohort, a Swedish population-based study for longitudinal surveillance of the development and progress of type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

Despite increasing recognition that sex is a critical variable in appetite research, many studies fail to include participants of both sexes, fail to consider reproductive physiology in participant selection, or include both sexes but fail to test for sex differences in outcomes. To help remedy this situation, this article seeks to engender enthusiasm for including sex as a variable in appetite research. We first illustrate some sex differences in healthy and disordered eating, including both male-female differences and differences across the menstrual cycle.

This study aimed to evaluate the use of the Improvac® vaccine to avoid heat and pregnancies in queens and fertility in males during the breeding season. Twenty-eight intact animals were divided into treated males (G1, n = 7), treated females (G2, n = 18), and untreated males (G3, n = 3) that were untamed and could not be captured for immunization. In cats from the G1 group, the testicular volume (337.

It is unclear how steroid hormones contribute to stroke, and conducting randomized controlled trials to obtain related evidence is challenging. Therefore, Mendelian randomization (MR) technique was employed in this study to examine this association. Through genome-wide association meta-analysis, the genetic variants of steroid hormones, including testosterone/17β-estradiol (T/E2) ratio, aldosterone, androstenedione, progesterone, and hydroxyprogesterone, were acquired as instrumental variables.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of hysterectomy for benign uterine tumors on subsequent ovarian reserve, sexual function, and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).
Methods: The present study was a prospective longitudinal analysis that recruited patients aged 35-45 years who underwent simple hysterectomy without oophorectomy for symptomatic benign uterine tumors. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and serum sex hormone profiles, including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol, progesterone, and total testosterone, were measured at four timepoints: before hysterectomy, and 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively.
