Fasciolosis is a food-borne anthropozoonotic disease caused by Fasciola spp. that affects multiple hosts, including ruminants and humans. In vitro testing of anthelmintics is of interest to establish the drug's activity without the need for time-consuming and expensive in vivo assays.

Communal grazing is the predominant farming system in Ethiopia and the livelihood of millions of people depend on it. Gastrointestinal nematodes represent a serious threat to the sustainability of these systems, and there is further concern due to the worldwide spread of anthelmintic resistance (AR). This study aimed to assess nematode control practices and anthelmintic efficacy in three districts of central Ethiopia, where sheep, goats and cattle are reared together by resource-poor farmers.

Multifunctional materials, such as restricted access molecularly imprinted polymers covered with bovine serum albumin (RAMIP-BSA), are effective alternatives for sample preparation techniques. This material selectively adsorbs analytes while excluding macromolecules, enhancing the analysis's efficiency. Among analytical techniques, ESI-MS/MS (Electrospray Ionization-Tandem Mass Spectrometry) has successfully identified and quantified various molecules, including trace-level drugs.

Despite the beneficial impacts of using drugs in animal husbandry, the risks of drug residues in animal products are a concern worldwide. Therefore, most countries have developed systems and methods to detect and monitor drug residues in animal products using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with mass spectrometry (MS). However, MS detectors are not available in all universities; thus, we developed a new method suitable for ultraviolet detection.
