Article Synopsis
  • Bleeding disorder of unknown cause (BDUC) is diagnosed after ruling out other causes, and this study analyzed data from 375 BDUC patients compared to 100 healthy controls.
  • The findings revealed that BDUC patients had lower peak plasmin levels and clot density, indicating potential issues with clot structure, while still showing a higher potential for plasmin generation.
  • A model including fibrinogen and plasmin generation parameters effectively distinguished BDUC patients from healthy controls, demonstrating the potential for predictive diagnostics in bleeding disorders.

Fibrinolysis is impaired in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia.

J Thromb Haemost

Department of Medicine I, Division of Hematology and Hemostaseology, Medical University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • * In a study of 86 ITP patients and 78 healthy controls, findings showed that ITP patients had significantly slower clot lysis times and higher levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), while tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) levels were lower.
  • * The results suggest that prolonged clot lysis time (CLT) and altered fibrinolysis mechanisms in ITP may contribute to thrombosis risk, with specifically higher tPA-PAI-1 complexes indicating potential

Objective: Comparing the utility of the anti-human serum amyloid A (SAA)-specific monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies assays (LZ-SAA) with the pure monoclonal anti-human antibody assays (VET-SAA) during clinical practice in primary care hospital populations by measuring SAA measurement in healthy and diseased domestic cats.

Animals: 52 healthy and 185 diseased client-owned cats.

Methods: SAA concentration was measured using different LZ-SAA and VET-SAA measurements for healthy and various diseased cats.

Effects of dabigatran, rivaroxaban, and apixaban on fibrin network permeability, thrombin generation, and fibrinolysis.

Scand J Clin Lab Invest

July 2024

Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, Karolinska Institutet, Danderyd Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores pharmacological differences between direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and their impact on hemostasis in patients, emphasizing the need for deeper understanding.
  • Blood samples from patients on dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban, and warfarin were analyzed using various assays to measure fibrin network permeability, clotting, and other related components.
  • Results suggest that dabigatran provides stronger anticoagulation effects compared to apixaban and rivaroxaban, but the findings are primarily influenced by the assay methods used rather than clinical outcomes.

Objectives: Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) may have untapped potential in clinical diagnostics. Previous studies determined reference intervals using an enzyme-linked immunoassay, but there is a need for reference intervals using a faster assay if the analysis is to be used in emergency medicine. The current study aims to determine reference intervals for suPAR using a fully automated particle-enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay (PETIA) according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guideline A28-A3c.
