Two types of cardioplegic solution--the potassium arrest and the Bretschneider solution, both at 4 degrees C--were compared with regard to protective effect against ischemic damage during 60 min of anoxic cardiac arrest in the dog heart. Both solutions provided equally good protection, which was superior to that given by hypothermia alone.

Myocardial fibrosis leads to cardiac dysfunction and arrhythmias in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, RNA sequencing identifies Forkhead Box1 (FoxO1) signaling as abnormal in male HFpEF hearts. Genetic suppression of FoxO1 alters the intercellular communication between cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts, alleviates abnormal diastolic relaxation, and reduces arrhythmias.

Temporal echocardiography image registration is important for cardiac motion estimation, myocardial strain assessments, and stroke volume quantifications. Deep learning image registration (DLIR) is a promising way to achieve consistent and accurate registration results with low computational time. DLIR seeks the image deformation that enables the moving image to be warped to match the fixed image.

Purpose: Somatostatin receptor (SSTR)-PET is crucial for effective treatment stratification of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). In highly proliferating or poorly differentiated NENs, dual-tracer approaches using additional [F]FDG PET can effectively identify SSTR-negative disease, usually requiring separate imaging sessions. We evaluated the feasibility of a one-day dual-tracer imaging protocol with a low activity [F]FDG PET followed by an SSTR-PET using the recently introduced [F]SiFAlin-TATE tracer in a long axial field-of-view (LAFOV) PET/CT scanner and its implications in patient management.

Background: The immune response to infections may become dysregulated and promote myocardial damage contributing to heart failure (HF). We examined the relationship between infection-related hospitalization (IRH) and HF, HF with preserved ejection fraction, and HF with reduced ejection fraction.
Methods And Results: We studied 14 468 adults aged 45 to 64 years in the ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) Study who were HF free at visit 1 (1987-1989).

Background: Myocardial infarction (MI) remains a leading cause of mortality globally, often resulting in irreversible damage to cardiomyocytes. Ferroptosis, a recently identified form of regulated cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, has emerged as a significant contributor to post-MI cardiac injury. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response has been implicated in exacerbating ferroptosis.
