Background: The development of highly efficient and environmentally friendly plant virus inhibitors with novel structures mostly depends on the discovery of new targets. G-quadruplexes are non-classical high-level structures that are formed by guanine-rich nucleic acid sequences, which have significant biological functions. Small molecules that target the G-quadruplexes in the genomes of animal viruses have been shown to inhibit viral proliferation.

The vast majority of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) who transition to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) are treated with dialysis. Given that dialysis does not always have the intended effects of increasing longevity and/or improving health, particularly in those with high comorbidity burden and/or older age groups, there has been increasing emphasis on interventions that delay or avert the need for renal replacement therapy. Among the multi-disciplinary approaches used to reduce CKD progression, dietary interventions are a major cornerstone.

Article Synopsis
  • The respiratory system is vital for oxygen absorption and carbon dioxide expulsion, helping to maintain the body's acid-base balance and metabolic stability.
  • The outbreak of COVID-19 has highlighted the need for new treatments for respiratory diseases, leading to renewed interest in Tanshinone IIA, a bioactive compound traditionally used for heart diseases.
  • Research shows Tanshinone IIA has various therapeutic effects, including anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, and it shows promise in treating conditions like asthma and lung cancer, making it a valuable focus for future studies.

Background: Although studies have revealed the benefits of using dexmedetomidine (DEX) in treating rodent models of acute lung injury (ALI) by improving their survival rates, clinical investigation on the effect of DEX on patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains scarce. Through this retrospective study, we aim to better understand the underlying mechanism of sepsis-induced ARDS and the effect of DEX on patients' standard treatment.

Methods: A total of 208 patients with sepsis-induced ARDS, admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University, China, from January 2017 to December 2019, were included.

Background: This in-vitro and in-vivo study investigates the Gibbs-Donnan effect across the filter during continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH). In particular, we assessed its acid-base implications, applying the physical-chemical approach.

Methods: A prospective, single-center study was conducted using the PrismaMax machine (Baxter).
