Atomistic Structure Investigation of Eu-Doped ZnO Nanosponges.

Inorg Chem

January 2025

Department of Material and Environmental Chemistry, Arrhenius Laboratory, Stockholm University, SE-10691 Stockholm, Sweden.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a semiconductor with a wide range of applications, and often the properties are modified by metal-ion doping. The distribution of dopant atoms within the ZnO crystal strongly affects the optical and magnetic properties, making it crucial to comprehend the structure down to the atomic level. Our study reveals the dopant structure and its contents in Eu-doped ZnO nanosponges with up to 20% Eu-O clusters.

Ten-Year Change in Visual Function and Incidence of Visual Impairment in Highly Myopic Children and Adults.

Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases, Guangzhou, China.

Purpose: To investigate the 10-year changes in visual function and incidence of visual impairment (VI) in highly myopic eyes.

Methods: This longitudinal study enrolled highly myopic individuals who were followed up for 10 years. All participants underwent detailed ophthalmic examinations at baseline and follow-up visits.

Purpose: To quantify outer retina structural changes and define novel biomarkers of inherited retinal degeneration associated with biallelic mutations in RPE65 (RPE65-IRD) in patients before and after subretinal gene augmentation therapy with voretigene neparvovec (Luxturna).

Methods: Application of advanced deep learning for automated retinal layer segmentation, specifically tailored for RPE65-IRD. Quantification of five novel biomarkers for the ellipsoid zone (EZ): thickness, granularity, reflectivity, and intensity.

: To explore the relationship between the stability of poly(gamma-glutamic acid) (γ-PGA) dispersion systems with γ-PGA of different molecular weights (MWs) and concentrations and type I collagen mineralization. : γ-PGA was used as a noncollagenous protein (NCP) analogue to regulate the stability of supersaturated γ-PGA-stabilized amorphous calcium phosphate (PGA-ACP) solutions by changing the γ-PGA MW (2, 10, 100, 200 and 500 kDa) and concentration (400, 500 and 600 μg mL). Then, the optical density (OD) at 72 h was measured to determine the PGA-ACP solution stability.

Vanadium dioxide (VO) has received significant interest in the context of nanophotonic metamaterials and memories owing to its reversible insulator-metal transition associated with significant changes in its optical and electronic properties. The phase transition of VO has been extensively studied for several decades, and the ways how to control its hysteresis characteristics relevant for memory applications have significantly improved. However, the hysteresis dynamics and stability of coexisting phases during the transition have not been studied on the level of individual single-crystal VO nanoparticles (NPs), although they represent the fundamental component of ordinary polycrystalline films and can also act like nanoscale memory units on their own.
