The antianginal action of a fixed combination of pindolol (7.5 mg) and isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN, 30 mg slow release) was compared with placebo in sixteen patients with stable, exercise-induced angina pectoris. Exercise tests were performed on a bicycle ergometer before and 90 min after the oral application of active drug or placebo. All patients showed an ischemia-induced ST-depression in the ECG during and shortly after exercise. There was no effect of placebo on blood pressure, heart rate, ST-segment depression or work tolerance. The combination of pindolol and ISDN significantly reduced systolic blood pressure and heart rate at rest and during exercise. ST-segment depression was reduced (2 p less than or equal to 0.001), when compared with placebo at the same workload. Mean total work was higher (2 p less than or equal to 0.001) after active drug, leading to an improved exercise-tolerance in 11 out of 16 patients.

MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine), a synthetic ring-substituted amphetamine, combined with psychotherapy has demonstrated efficacy for the treatment of chronic posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients. This controlled prospective study aimed to assess the bio-behavioral underpinnings of MDMA in a translational model of PTSD. Rats exposed to predator-scent stress (PSS) were subjected to a trauma-cue at day 7 shortly after single-dose MDMA injection (5 mg/kg).

Combining solid phase microextraction (SPME) and mass spectrometry (MS) analysis has become increasingly important to many bioanalytical, environmental, and forensic applications due to its simplicity, rapid analysis, and capability of reducing matrix effects for complex samples. To further promote the adoption of SPME-MS based analysis and expand its application scope calls for efficient and convenient interfaces that couple the SPME sample handling with the efficient analyte ionization for MS. Here, we report a novel interface that integrates both the desorption and the ionization steps in one device based on the capillary vibrating sharp-edge spray ionization (cVSSI) method.

Introduction: Antidepressants increase the level of 5-HT in the somatodendritic region of the serotonergic dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) neurons in the first few days of their usage, which, in turn, inhibits the serotonergic neurons locally. Pindolol may eliminate this inhibition when used in combination with antidepressants.
Material And Methods: We aimed to determine the effect of pindolol on 5-HT1A receptor response in the DRN neurons, using voltage clamp recordings and prove the potentiation of antidepressant effect of venlafaxine by pindolol through behavior experiments.
