To verify the frequency and severity of metabolic abnormalities occurring as a result of intentional theophylline overdose, we retrospectively analyzed admission laboratory data from 22 cases of theophylline poisoning. Hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, and leukocytosis were frequent findings, and the magnitude of these abnormalities was related to the corresponding serum theophylline level. Although measurements were available for a smaller number of patients, respiratory alkalosis, hypophosphatemia, and hypomagnesemia were also common findings. Given the potential contribution of these abnormalities to the cardiovascular and neurologic toxicities of theophylline, it is important that their presence in patients with overdose be anticipated.

This prospective observational study aimed to compare abdominal hysterectomy (AH), vaginal hysterectomy (VH), and total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) in terms of oxidative stress (OS) by measuring serum levels of total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), and oxidative stress index (OSI). Of the 3 groups, namely, AH, VH, and TLH, 22 patients were enrolled in each to investigate the aim of the study mentioned above. Patient demographics, clinical and surgical characteristics, and preoperative and postoperative (0th and 24th hours) serum TAS, TOS, and OSI levels were investigated.

Metabolic abnormalities associated with liver disease have a significant impact on the risk and prognosis of cholecystitis. However, the underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. Here, we investigated this issue using Wilson's disease (WD) as a model, which is a genetic disorder characterized by impaired mitochondrial function and copper metabolism.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical performance of expanded non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT-plus) and compare its effectiveness in screening for chromosomal aneuploidies with that of NIPT.
Methods: Screening results, confirmatory invasive testing results, and follow-up data from pregnant women who underwent either NIPT (6792 cases) or NIPT-Plus (5237 cases) testing at Luohe Central Hospital, China, from January 2019 to June 2023 were collected. The positive predictive value (PPV), sensitivity, specificity, and other indicators for different types of chromosomal abnormalities in NIPT/NIPT-plus screening were calculated.

SOX9 is a crucial transcriptional regulator of cartilage development and homeostasis. Dysregulation of is associated with a wide spectrum of skeletal disorders, including campomelic dysplasia, acampomelic campomelic dysplasia, and scoliosis. Yet how variants contribute to the spectrum of axial skeletal disorders is not well understood.

Objective: Osteoarthritis is a common joint disease caused by a variety of risk factors, and it has been found that many biochemical markers are abnormal in peripheral blood and urine of patients with OA. The aim of this study was to elucidate the causal relationship between biomarkers associated with these processes and OA using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.
Method: The inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach to MR was primarily used to explore causal associations between exposures and outcomes using publicly available genetic variants from large genome-wide association studies (GWAS).
