Background: We studied the effects of endovascular treatment (EVT) and the impact of the extent of recanalization on cerebral perfusion and oxygenation parameters in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and large vessel occlusion (LVO).
Methods: Forty-seven patients with anterior LVO underwent computed tomography perfusion (CTP) before and immediately after EVT. The entire ischemic region (T >6 s) was segmented before intervention, and tissue perfusion (time-to-maximum (T), time-to-peak (TTP), mean transit time (MTT), cerebral blood volume (CBV), cerebral blood flow (CBF)) and oxygenation (coefficient of variation (COV), capillary transit time heterogeneity (CTH), metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO), oxygen extraction fraction (OEF)) parameters were quantified from the segmented area at baseline and the corresponding area immediately after intervention, as well as within the ischemic core and penumbra.

Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor ibrutinib is effective in treating chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). However, after ibrutinib treatment initiation, patients frequently experience an increase of CLL blood cell count. This phenomenon in clinical practice is thought to reflect a "compartment shift" of CLL cells from lymph nodes to the peripheral blood, but the actual shifting has not yet been demonstrated.

Objectives: The clinical utility of electronically derived ASPECTS (e-ASPECTS) to quantify signs of acute ischemic infarction could be demonstrated in multiple studies. Here, we aim to clinically validate the impact of CT slice thickness (ST) on the performance of e-ASPECTS software.
Methods: A consecutive series of n = 258 patients (06/2016 and 01/2019) with middle cerebral artery occlusion and subsequent treatment with mechanical thrombectomy was analyzed.

Application of high pressure can be used for gentle pasteurizing of food, minimizing undesirable alterations such as vitamin losses and changes in taste and color. In addition, pressure has become a useful tool for investigating structural changes in proteins. Treatments of proteins with high pressure can reveal conformations that are not obtainable by other physical variables like temperature, since pressure favors structural transitions accompanied with smaller volumes.

Crude brain homogenates of terminally diseased hamsters infected with the 263 K strain of scrapie (PrP Sc) were heated and/or pressurized at 800 MPa at 60 degrees C for different times (a few seconds or 5, 30, 120 min) in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) of different pH and concentration. Prion proteins were analyzed on immunoblots for their proteinase K (PK) resistance, and in hamster bioassays for their infectivity. Samples pressurized under initially neutral conditions and containing native PrP Sc were negative on immunoblots after PK treatment, and a 6-7 log reduction of infectious units per gram was found when the samples were pressurized in PBS of pH 7.
