The apurinic/apyrimidinic site (AP site) is a highly mutagenic and cytotoxic DNA lesion. Normally, AP sites are removed from DNA by base excision repair (BER). Methoxyamine (MOX), a BER inhibitor currently under clinical trials as a tumor sensitizer, forms adducts with AP sites (AP-MOX) resistant to the key BER enzyme, AP endonuclease.

The sustainable utilization of biomass-derived bioactives addresses the growing demand for natural health products and supports sustainable development goals by reducing reliance on synthetic chemicals in healthcare. biomass, in particular, has emerged as a valuable resource within this context. This study focuses on the hydroethanolic extract of leaves (CSE), which exhibited significant levels of phenolic compounds contributing to robust antioxidant activity.

Mutagenicity testing is a component of the hazard assessment of industrial chemicals, biocides, and pesticides. Mutations induced by test substances can be detected by in vitro and in vivo methods that have been adopted as OECD Test Guidelines. One of these in vivo methods is the Transgenic Rodent Assay (TGRA), OECD test guideline no.

Background: Furfurals, key derivatives of Maillard reactions commonly found in everyday foods, have been identified as having significant toxic effects on human health. Excessive intake of furfurals can lead symptoms such as weight loss, poor nutrient metabolism which followed by disease occurrence. The severe carcinogenicity, mutagenicity and genotoxicity of furfurals were well recognized recently.

HhH-GPD (helix-hairpin-helix-glycine/proline/aspartate) family proteins are involved in DNA damage repair. Currently, mechanism of alkylated DNA repair in Crenarchaea has not been fully clarified. The hyperthermophilic model crenarchaeon Saccharolobus islandicus REY15A possesses a novel HhH-GPD family protein (Sis-HhH-GPD), where its Ser152 corresponds to a conserved catalytic Asp in other HhH-GPD homologs.
