Vitamin C is an essential nutrient. Sex differences in serum vitamin C concentrations have been observed but are not fully known. Investigation of levels of metabolites may help shed light on how dietary and other environmental exposures interact with molecular processes.

The incidence of heart failure (HF) is increasing and is associated with a poor prognosis. Moreover, HF often coexists with renal dysfunction and is associated with a worsened outcome. In many experimental studies on cardiac dysfunction, the function of other organs was either not addressed or did not show any decline.

Metabolites are small molecules that are useful for estimating disease risk and elucidating disease biology. Nevertheless, their causal effects on human diseases have not been evaluated comprehensively. We performed two-sample Mendelian randomization to systematically infer the causal effects of 1,099 plasma metabolites measured in 6,136 Finnish men from the METSIM study on risk of 2,099 binary disease endpoints measured in 309,154 Finnish individuals from FinnGen.

Acrylamide has been reported as an important dietary risk factor from carbohydrate-rich processing food. However, systemic biological effects on the serum metabolomics induced by acrylamide have poorly been understood. In the present study, we evaluated the metabolic profiles in a rat serum after exposure to acrylamide using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography combined with quadrupole-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry.

The antioxidant and anti-proinflammatory activities of L-leucine were investigated on oxidative testicular injury, ex vivo. In vitro analysis revealed L-leucine to be a potent scavenger of free radicals, while inhibiting acetylcholinesterase activity. Oxidative injury was induced in testicular tissues using FeSO.
