Unlabelled: Respiratory alkalosis is associated with central nervous system (CNS) diseases, drugs, lung diseases and others. Safinamide is a recent anti-parkinsonian drug with anti-dyskinetic properties and a good adjunct to L-dopa therapy during the activation period, with no significant adverse effects described. The authors present a case of a 71-year-old woman, with Parkinson's disease treated with levodopa/benserazide, safinamide, amitriptyline, sertraline and diazepam.

Background: Physiological criteria are used to assess the potential severity of injury in the early phase of a trauma patient's care trajectory. Few studies have described the extent of abnormality in vital signs and different combinations of these at a national level. Aim of the study was to identify physiologic abnormalities in trauma patients and describe different combinations of abnormalities and changes between the pre-hospital and emergency department (ED) settings.

Postural hyperventilation has been implicated as a cause of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), yet the precise mechanisms underlying the heightened breathing response remain unclear. This study challenges current hypotheses by revealing that exaggerated peripheral chemoreceptor activity is not the primary driver of postural hyperventilation. Instead, significant contributions from reduced stroke volume and compromised brain perfusion during orthostatic stress were identified.
