The rate of hemoglobin repletion in iron-deficient rats was used to measure the bioavailability of several elemental iron powders added to an iron-free nutritionally balanced chow. We used ferrous sulfate as a standard, highly bioavailable control. Of the several powders, carbonyl iron demonstrated the highest bioavailability. Testing elemental iron powders in human diets seems appropriate.

Defects are common features in hematite that arise from deviations from the perfect mineral crystal structure. Vacancy defects have been shown to significantly enhance arsenate (As) immobilization by hematite. However, the contributions from vacancy defects on different exposed facets of hematite have not been fully quantified.

Congenital factor VII (FVII) deficiency is a rare genetic disorder with autosomal recessive inheritance, characterized by molecular and clinical heterogeneity. This article reports four Moroccan cases of FVII deficiency within the same family, two of which were associated with Gilbert's syndrome. The index case was a 15-year-old girl with a history of menorrhagia and jaundice.

Laser surface alloying of Fe, Si, and C on aluminium is demonstrated using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser as the source of energy. The fundamental wavelength of the laser beam was 1064 nm with an output energy of 100 mJ and a pulse duration of 10 ns. The exposure was conducted in repetitive mode with a frequency rate of 1 Hz.

A low-cost method of green hydrogen production via the modification of a lead acid battery has been achieved, resulting in a hydrogen flow rate of 5.3 L min from a 20-cell string. The electrochemical behavior and catalytic effect of various metal additives on the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry.

The self-assembled ferritin protein nanocage plays a pivotal role during oxidative stress, iron metabolism, and host-pathogen interaction by executing rapid iron uptake, oxidation and its safe-storage. Self-assembly creates a nanocompartment and various pores/channels for the uptake of charged substrates (Fe) and develops a concentration gradient across the protein shell. This phenomenon fuels rapid ferroxidase activity by an upsurge in the substrate concentration at the catalytic sites.
