The influence of several prognostic factors in kidney transplantation was studied by the actuarial method from the data collected on 332 grafts performed at one center from 1971 to 1982. Taking into account the various interactions between these factors, 3 survival parameters were calculated: patient's survival, immunologic tolerance of the graft and overall graft survival. The relevant prognostic factors, ranked in decreasing order, are: origin of the graft, immunosuppressive therapy, recipient's age, recipient's HBs status and number of blood transfusions administered prior to transplantation, HLA presensitization and HLA-A,B matching. Integration of these factors leads to a precise estimation of the risk of transplantation from the characteristics of the graft and those of the potential recipients, thereby allowing to select the best candidate.

Background: The detection rate of oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPVs) in sinonasal squamous cell carcinomas (SNSCCs) varies among studies. The mutational landscape of SNSCCs remains poorly investigated.

Methods: We investigated the prevalence and prognostic significance of HPV infections based on p16 protein expression, HPV-DNA detection, and E6/E7 mRNA expression using immunohistochemistry, polymerase chain reaction, and in situ hybridization, respectively.

Chronic inflammation in the tumour microenvironment (TME) via Th2-polarisation promotes melanoma progression and metastasis, making it a target for immunotherapy. Interleukin (IL)-4 is considered essential for Th2-polarisation in the TME; however, its source remains unknown. Basophils have been postulated as one of its sources.

Background: To date, 11 DNA polymerase epsilon (POLE) pathogenic variants have been declared "hotspot" mutations. Patients with endometrial cancer (EC) characterized by POLE hotspot mutations (POLEmut) have exceptional survival outcomes. Whereas international guidelines encourage deescalation of adjuvant treatment in early-stage POLEmut EC, data regarding safety in POLEmut patients with unfavorable characteristics are still under investigation.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common and highly lethal cancers worldwide. RIO kinase 1 (RIOK1), a protein kinase/ATPase that plays a key role in regulating translation and ribosome assembly, is associated with a variety of malignant tumors. However, the role of RIOK1 in HCC remains largely unknown.

Background: Diaphragm thickness is a potential marker of sarcopenia in addition to muscle mass and strength at extremities. We aimed to clarify the descriptive epidemiology and prognostic significance of diaphragm thickness in the general population.

Methods: The study participants were 3324 community residents (mean age: 61.
