Background: An increased risk of multiple secondary diseases has been observed in individuals with diabetes, which contributes to the growing economic burden. Few studies have established the connection of blood urea nitrogen/albumin (BAR) with diabetes, and its link to subsequent diabetic complications and mortality remains unclear. We aimed to explore the association of BAR with the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its dynamic progression.

This study investigates the combustion characteristics and critical thermodynamic conditions for the ignition of TC4 and TC17 alloys under high-speed friction conditions. The results indicate that, under identical rubbing conditions, both the critical pressure and the ignition temperature of the TC17 alloy are higher than those of the TC4 alloy. The critical ignition conditions for both alloys increase with thickness, while they decrease with increasing rotational speed, oxygen concentration, and oxygen pressure.

Prognostic significance of three lymph node staging systems in pancreatic cancer with ≤ 12 and > 12 retrieved lymph nodes.

Updates Surg

January 2025

Department of General Surgery, Department of Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery, Beijing Hospital, National Center of Gerontology, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, No. 1 Da Hua Road, Dong Dan, Beijing, 100730, People's Republic of China.

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the predictive performance of negative lymph nodes (NLN), lymph node ratio (LNR), and N stage in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) among patients with ≤ 12 retrieved lymph nodes and those with > 12 retrieved lymph nodes. Moreover, the association between the three nodal staging systems and survival was also explored. Clinical data on patients diagnosed with PDAC between 2004 and 2020 were downloaded from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Objectives: Delayed surgery is significantly associated with an increased risk of disease progression and adverse outcomes in lung cancer. Evidence is available on the variation in delayed surgical treatment among patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). However, the relative contribution of patient- and area-level risk factors to the geographic patterns of delayed surgery in patients with NSCLC is poorly understood.

Nuclear pseudoinclusion is associated with BRAFV600E mutation: Analysis of nuclear features in papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Ann Diagn Pathol

January 2025

Department of Anatomical Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia/Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta 14320, Indonesia; Human Cancer Research Center-Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta 14320, Indonesia.

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most prevalent thyroid neoplasm, classified into BRAF-like and RAS-like subtypes. Nuclear alterations serve as a diagnostic criterion of PTC and are fully manifested in BRAF-like. This single-center retrospective study aimed to assess the different presentation of nuclear features in 40 samples of BRAFV600E- and 40 samples of RAS-mutated PTCs using both bivariate and multivariate analytic approaches.
