The purpose of this review is to present data on nasal reactivity to methacholine, histamine and allergen in normal subjects, patients with common colds, perennial rhinitis and hay-fever. Nasal challenge is performed by spraying the agent into the nose and counting the sneezes, measuring the resulting secretion and the increase in nasal airway resistance during a 15 minute period. We found that there was a small increase in reactivity during a common cold, but a considerable increase during the hay-fever season and associated with perennial rhinitis. We conclude that a nasal challenge test may be a valuable tool as an objective parameter for the diagnosis and for the estimation of the severity of rhinitis. It may also be helpful in the evaluation of new drugs and give information regarding pathogenetic mechanisms as well as the mode of action of specific drugs.

The color and aroma of nectarines experience adverse effects from cutting, resulting in the fast senescence of fruit tissue. Therefore, 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) was used to treat postharvest nectarines before cutting, and its effect on the surface browning and aroma alteration were investigated. The results indicated that 1-MCP restrained the soluble quinone (SQC) accumulation in fresh-cut nectarines by regulating the peroxidase (POD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities and the metabolism of phenolic compounds.

Para-pneumonic effusion in children is often associated with bacterial infections; however, dual viral infections, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19, can also lead to severe respiratory complications, as demonstrated in this case. Pediatric-type follicular lymphoma (PTFL) is an extremely rare B-cell lymphoma that primarily affects children and young adults, typically in individuals under 25 years old, with a median age of 15 years. Here, we report a rare case of PTFL in a 27-year-old adult male who presented with a slow-growing mass near his left ear. Initial CT scans of the neck revealed two oval-shaped, smooth, well-defined, homogeneously enhancing soft tissue density lesions in the superficial lobe of the left parotid gland.
