COVID-19 is an emerging viral pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, which is the causative agent of unprecedented disease-causing public health threats globally. Worldwide, this outbreak is wreaking havoc due to failure in risk assessment regarding the urgency of the pandemic. As per the reports, many secondary complications which include neurological, nephrological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, immune, and hepatic abnormalities, are linked with COVID -19 infection which is associated with prominent respiratory disorders including pneumonia.

Background: The standard of care for Lassa fever is the use of ribavirin with supportive therapy. There is little information on the course of viremia and its relationship with clinical outcomes in patients treated with ribavirin.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of virologic and clinical parameters of 152 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction-confirmed Lassa fever cases admitted and treated with ribavirin therapy.
Following the coronavirus disease-2019 outbreak caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), there is an ongoing need to seek drugs that target COVID-19. First off, novel drugs have a long development cycle, high investment cost, and are high risk. Second, novel drugs must be evaluated for activity, efficacy, safety, and metabolic performance, contributing to the development cycle, investment cost, and risk.
