Background: The purposes of this study were to examine the reliability and factorial and convergent validity of a virtual performance measure (VPM) in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip joint and to compare the known-group validity of the VPM with traditional self-report and performance-based outcomes.

Methods: The VPM score was based on the results of 10 videos showing increasing difficulty in performing specific functional tasks. Patients were requested to choose the video that best reflected their own level of function.

Background: Accurate assessment of fluid volume and hydration status is essential in many disease states, including patients with chronic kidney disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the ability of a wearable continuous bioimpedance sensor to detect changes in fluid volume in patients undergoing regular hemodialysis (HD).

Methods: 31 patients with end-stage renal disease were enrolled and monitored with a sensor patch (Re:Balans) on the upper back through two consecutive HD sessions and the interdialytic period between.

Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy of toric intraocular lens (IOL) axis prediction between two preoperative measurement devices: the optical biometry (IOLMaster 500 or 700) and the dual Scheimpflug topography (Galilei G4).

Methods: Medical records of 64 eyes from 44 patients who underwent phacoemulsification and posterior chamber toric IOL (Zeiss AT TORBI 709M) implantation between July 2017 and January 2022 were reviewed. All patients underwent preoperative evaluation by optical biometry (IOLMaster 500 or IOLMaster 700) and Galilei G4.

Piezoelectric materials directly convert between electrical and mechanical energies. They are used as transducers in applications such as nano-positioning and ultrasound imaging. Improving the properties of these devices requires piezoelectric materials capable of delivering a large longitudinal strain on the application of an electric field.

Improved S-bend optical waveguide loss formula verified by experiments.

Sci Rep

Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, University Al Azhar Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Curvature of a dielectric waveguide always leads to attenuation of the mode power as it propagates through the curved region. In single mode guides, bending loss becomes significant as the radius of curvature reduces and is strongly dependent on the confinement of the guided mode, so that weakly guiding waveguides can tolerate only large radii of curvature. In this paper we verify our new theoretical version on power loss prediction of S-bend optical waveguides by using analytical theory based on integration of absorption coefficient and compare it to the experimental measurement of such waveguide bends.
