An important technical task is to develop methods for recording the phase transitions of water to ice. At present, many sensors based on various types of acoustic waves are suggested for solving this challenge. This paper focuses on the theoretical and experimental study of the effect of water-to-ice phase transition on the properties of Lamb and quasi shear horizontal (QSH) acoustic waves of a higher order propagating in different directions in piezoelectric plates with strong anisotropy.

Treatment of limb skin defect with self-made skin distractor.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord

December 2024

Orthopedic Research Institute of HeBei Province, Orthopedic Biomechanic Key Laboratory of Hebei Province, Trauma Emergency Center of Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, 050051, China.

Objective: To investigate the effect of self-made skin distractor in the treatment of limb skin defects.

Methods: From September 2018 to January 2020, 15 cases of limb skin defects (16 wounds) were treated with self-designed skin distractor, including 13 males and 2 females, with an average age of 42 years (range, 9-73 years). The smallest area of skin defect was 6 cm×3 cm, the largest was 32 cm ×7 cm, with an average of 72.

To address the challenges of performing in-situ tests on riverbed overburden gravel, this study employs three scaling methods-equal mass substitution, similar gradation, and the mixed method-to investigate the original gradation of the gravel. Large-scale triaxial consolidated drained shear tests were conducted to evaluate the effects of the maximum particle size reduction ratio (M) and confining pressure on the stress-strain behavior, fractal dimension, particle breakage, and the parameters of the Duncan-Chang model (an elastic model describing nonlinear stress-strain relationships). The study explores how scaling, based on fractal dimension and particle breakage rate, impacts the strength and deformation characteristics of gravel materials.

We have investigated the effect of length and chemical structure of phospholipid tails on the spontaneous formation of unilamellar liposomal vesicles in binary solute mixtures of cationic drug surfactant and zwitterionic phosphatidylcholine phospholipids. Binary drug surfactant-phospholipid mixtures with four different phospholipids with identical headgroups (two saturated phospholipids 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC, 14:0) and 1,2-Dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC, 16:0), and two unsaturated lipids 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC, 18:1) and 1,2-Dierucoyl-sn-Glycero-3-Phosphatidylcholine (DEPC, 22:1)) combined with two different tricyclic antidepressant drugs (amitriptyline hydrochloride (AMT) and doxepin hydrochloride (DXP)) have been investigated with small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). We observe a conspicuous impact of phospholipid tail structure on both micelle-to-vesicle transition point and vesicle size.

This study investigates the effects of suberic acid residue (SAR) additions on structural single-layer particleboard (like the P5 type, according to EN 312) properties, specifically the water absorption (WA), thickness swelling (TS), modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), screw withdrawal resistance (SWR), and internal bond (IB) strength. The results indicate that finer SAR fractions (1/0.25 and 2/1) reduce the WA after 2 h of soaking, while larger fractions increase the WA after 24 h, with only the smallest fraction meeting the TS standards.
