Ecdysozoan worms (Nematoida + Scalidophora) are typified by disparate grades of neural organization reflecting a complex evolutionary history. The fossil record offers a unique opportunity to reconstruct the early character evolution of the nervous system via the exceptional preservation of extinct representatives. We focus on their nervous system as it appears in early and mid-Cambrian fossils.

Shrews are among the most speciose of mammalian clades, but their evolutionary history is poorly understood. Their fossil record is fragmentary and even the anatomy of living groups is not well documented. Here, we incorporate the oldest, most complete fossil shrew yet known into the first phylogenetic analysis of the group to include molecular, morphological and temporal data.

Purpose: The California National Primate Research Center contains a colony of rhesus macaques with a homozygous missense mutation in PDE6C (R565Q) which causes a cone disorder similar to PDE6C achromatopsia in humans. The purposes of this study are to characterize the phenotype in PDE6C macaques in detail to determine the onset of the cone phenotype, the degree to which the phenotype progresses, if heterozygote animals have an intermediate phenotype, and if rod photoreceptor function declines over time.
Methods: We analyzed spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), fundus autofluorescence (FAF), and electroretinography (ERG) data from 102 eyes of 51 macaques (aged 0.

Leaf-associated fungi, the fungi that depend on leaves to sporulate, have a rich Cenozoic record, however their earlier diversity is poorly characterized. Here we describe Harristroma eboracense gen. et sp.

Premise: Cladoxylopsids, one of the first lineages with complex organization to rise from the plexus of structurally simple plants that comprised the earliest euphyllophyte floras, are moniliformopsid euphyllophytes. They formed Earth's earliest forests by the Middle Devonian and are thought to have given rise to the equisetopsids and probably some fern lineages. The Lower Devonian (Emsian) Battery Point Formation (Quebec, Canada) contains previously unrecognized cladoxylopsids preserved anatomically.
