Fifty-seven patients with recently healed duodenal ulcers were entered into a 1-year trial of maintenance therapy with ranitidine ( Zantac ; Glaxo) 150 mg at night to assess the safety and efficacy of the drug. Twenty-two of the patients were withdrawn because they violated the trial protocol. No serious side-effects were noted, but only 19 of the 35 patients who met the requirements of the study were free of endoscopic evidence of ulcer recurrence at the end of the trial period. The relapse rate of 46% in the present study was of the same order as those found in two previous South African studies of maintenance therapy with cimetidine given in a dose of 400 mg at night. These findings leave the question whether routine maintenance therapy is warranted in our patients unanswered.

Background: Oxygen therapy is critical and vital treatment for hypoxemia and respiratory distress, however, access to reliable oxygen systems remains limited in SSA. Despite WHO initiatives that distributed over 30,000 OC oxygen concentrators worldwide, SSA faces significant challenges related to their maintenance and use, due to harsh environmental conditions, technical skill shortages and inadequate infrastructure. This review aims to systematically identify and assess the literature on OC design adaptations, maintenance challenges, and knowledge gaps in SSA, providing actionable recommendations to inform innovative and context-sensitive solutions to improve healthcare delivery in the region.

Background: CDK4/6 inhibitors have significantly improved the survival of patients with HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer, becoming a first-line treatment option. However, the development of resistance to these inhibitors is inevitable. To address this challenge, novel strategies are required to overcome resistance, necessitating a deeper understanding of its mechanisms.

Background: Preventure is a selective school-based personality-targeted program that has shown long-term benefits in preventing student alcohol use, internalising and externalising problems when delivered by psychologists. In this first Australian randomised controlled trial of school staff implementation of Preventure, we aimed to examine i) acceptability, feasibility, and fidelity and ii) effectiveness of Preventure on student alcohol use, internalising, and externalising symptoms.
Methods: A cluster-randomised controlled implementation trial was conducted in Sydney, Australia and was guided by the RE-AIM framework (Glasgow et al.

Objective: To analyze the impact of tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) maintenance therapy following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph + ALL) on recurrence rates and prognosis for the 2 transcripts, p190 and p210.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of clinical data from 58 patients diagnosed with Ph + ALL who underwent HSCT. All patients received TKI maintenance therapy following hematopoietic reconstruction post-transplantation.

Purpose: To determine the incidence of therapeutic target attainment using a three-times per week protocol for vancomycin therapy given during the last hour of intermittent hemodialysis (HD).
Methods: A single-center retrospective cohort study was conducted of patient medical records in a remote dialysis center from January 2017 to July 2023. Adult patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 on ≥3 months of intermittent HD who had received a course of vancomycin therapy with ≥1 serum vancomycin concentration recorded were included.
