Introduction: Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous systemic disease that becomes chronic in approximately one third of affected patients resulting in quality of life and functional impairment. Immunosuppressive drugs other than steroids represent alternative therapeutic options, but side effects like liver and bone marrow toxicity or increased susceptibility to infections limit their use. Pathophysiological studies in sarcoidosis patients demonstrate altered regulatory T-cell functions with a reduced expression of CTLA-4 (CD152) and prolonged inflammation.

India reported its first case of H1N1 in July 2009 in Pune and since then, the number of reported cases and deaths exploded in India. Since very little data is available about histopathological findings in patients of H1N1 fatal cases in India, a retrospective chart analysis of necropsy findings of 15 cases of 2009 H1N1 fatal cases was performed. Common clinical features were fever, cough, and breathlessness followed by sore throat and rhinorrhea.

Unlabelled: Divinylbenzene-HP is used for producing vinyl polymers. Divinylbenzene-HP was nominated for study by the National Cancer Institute because of the potential for worker exposure and the structural similarity of divinylbenzene to styrene, a potential human carcinogen. Male and female F344/N rats and B6C3F1 mice were exposed to divinylbenzene-HP (80%) by inhalation for 2 weeks, 3 months, or 2 years.

Objective: Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is an emerging infectious disease that first manifested in humans in November 2002. The SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) has been identified as the causal agent, but the pathology and pathogenesis are still not quite clear.

Methods: Post-mortem lung samples from six patients who died from SARS from April to July 2003 were studied by light and electron microscopy, Masson trichromal staining and immunohistochemistry.

O6-alkylguanine-DNA alkyltransferase (AGT) protects from the mutagenic and toxic lesions induced by 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU), and in many tumors, AGT overexpression provides a means of resistance. To circumvent this, O6-benzylguanine, an inactivator of AGT, has been developed and is currently in clinical development with BCNU; however, the potential long-term toxicities associated with this treatment are unknown. With the inactivation of AGT by O6-benzylguanine, a higher number of toxic and mutagenic O6-alkylguanine lesions introduced by methylating or chloroethylating agents would be expected.
