Two types for antibodies have been raised against the beta-adrenergic receptor: either by injection of highly purified receptor from turkey erythrocytes or by injection of anticatecholamine ligand antibodies, and induction of anti-idiotypic antibodies. Our data illustrate the interactions of the beta-adrenergic receptor with these polyclonal antibodies. Preliminary results with monoclonal antibodies are also described. The redistribution of beta-receptors on intact cells is visualized by the use of fluorescent antibodies. Immunoprecipitation of radioiodinated receptor by the antireceptor antibodies yields a single major 60,000 MW component.

Background: Conventional epidemiological studies have reported inconsistent results regarding the potential adverse effects of long-term use of antihypertensive drugs on cancer risk. Nevertheless, evidence of their impact on pancreatic cancer risk is limited and deserves further elucidation.
Methods: We selected genetic variants from the genes encoding the target proteins (angiotensin-converting enzyme, beta-1 adrenergic receptor, and solute carrier family 12 member 3) of the examined antihypertensive drugs as instruments based on expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) studies.

Background: High-sensitive (hs-) cardiac troponin assays provide prognostic information in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. Few studies have explored the impact of long-term rate control therapy on levels of troponin in AF patients without coronary heart disease and heart failure. This substudy of the RATe control in Atrial Fibrillation (RATAF) II study aimed to compare the effects of six months' treatment with diltiazem and metoprolol on hs-troponin I (TnI) levels both at rest and during exercise testing in patients with permanent AF.

Membrane proteins play central roles in cell physiology and are the targets of over 50% of FDA-approved drugs. In the present study, we prepared single alkyl-chained triglucosides decorated with multiple pendants, designated multiple pendant-bearing glucosides (MPGs), to enhance membrane protein stability. The new detergents feature two and four pendants of varying size at the hydrophilic-lipophilic interfaces, designated MPG-Ds and MPG-Ts, respectively.

Purpose: Although there is a growing body of evidence showing the effects of stress-related catecholamines on oral cancer progression, to date there are no studies that have investigated whether oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells can produce these hormones and whether this phenomenon is modulated by tobacco-related nitrosamines.
Methods: In this study, we investigated whether keratinocytes (HaCaT) and OSCC-derived cell lines (SSC9 and SCC25) can secrete the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, as well as the effects of the tobacco carcinogen 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) on norepinephrine secretion and OSCC proliferation.
Results: Supernatant from the HaCaT, SCC9 and SCC25 cells showed higher norepinephrine levels (6-, 14.

Cardiometabolic risk may differ based on a stress-induced alpha(α)-adrenergic response versus a predominant beta(β)-adrenergic response. Whether these responses might serve as significant markers of distinct cardiometabolic risk profiles based on hemodynamic reactivity remain unknown. We (1) characterized predominant α-and β-adrenergic hemodynamic response patterns to acute mental stress; and (2) determined the cardiometabolic risk profile within predominant α-or β-adrenergic responders, irrespective of age, sex, or ethnicity.
