Pyridoxylated polymerized hemoglobin (PP-Hb) was fractionated by the method of high pressure liquid chromatography, Molecular weight distribution, oxygen carrying capacity and antigenic characteristics of separated fractions have been investigated. It was demonstrated that a fraction may be separated from the crude PP-Hb, which is greatly homogeneous if structural and functional characteristics are concerned, and also optimal according to the parameters investigated. So, by a corresponding fractionation method it is possible to overcome the main limitation for use of PP-Hb as an artificial oxygen carrier--its heterogeneity.

The structural-functional state of the left ventricle of boys aged 8-12 years going in for middle-distance racing (the 1st group), swimming (the 2nd group) and wrestling (the 3rd group) has been studied by the method of echo-, poly- and electrocardiography. It is found that posterior wall of the ventricle myocardium is thicker, size of its anteroposterior cavity as well as cavity volume and total volume are larger, the myocardium mass is higher in younger sportsmen as compared with non-sportsmen of the same age. These data indicate the development of ventricular hyperfunction in both isometric and isotonic regimes.

The review analyzes structure-activity relations among dermorphin analogues. Dermorphin (Tyr-D-Ala-Phe-Gly-Tyr-Pro-Ser-NH2) is one of natural opioid peptides having a unique structure and exerting a very potent and prolonged antinociceptive effect. Methods of dermorphin synthesis are summarized together with data on more than 300 dermorphin-like peptides: the physico-chemical characteristics and data on opioid tests in vitro and in vivo are discussed.

Structural features of the endothelium interaction with the blood cellular elements during atherosclerotic processes of varying severity in the coronary arteries have been analyzed from the data of early sections and coronary artery biopsy specimens. The status of the endothelium has been uniform in macroscopically unchanged sites irrespective of the coronary atherosclerosis severity. A stable characteristic symptom of the initial stages of atherogenesis is the formation of crater-like defects and monocyte adhesion.

The structural peculiarities of rabbit muscle aldolase accompanying enhancement of the aldolase activity in diabetes are described from the data of tryptophan phosphorescence at the room temperature and fluorescence polarization. It is shown that the pathology-concomitant conformational changes occur in both the hydrophobic part and NAD-binding site of the enzyme. The character of the structural changes in the hydrophobic part of the protein in diabetes and an increase in the enzymic activity are similar to that observed in normal aldolase after its interaction with NADH and are believed to be associated with the enhancement of the rigidity in the Trp-147 environment.
