Thyrotropin (TTH) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) interaction was studied, using the euthyroid paranodal tissue (isolated by sub-surgery) of the thyroid in patients with nodose goiter. Two types of specific binding, differing by the affinity and ligand-bound capacity, were discovered both for TTH and PGE2. The appropriate kinetic characteristics were analysed. The data concerning a possible PGE2 receptor localization on the external side of the thyrocyte plasma membrane were obtained by means of affinity chromatography. A precise relationship between specific TTH-PGE2 binding and human thyroid cells was revealed.

Functional evolution of thyrotropin-releasing hormone neuropeptides: Insights from an echinoderm.

Zool Res

January 2025

The Key Laboratory of Mariculture, Ministry of Education, Ocean University of China, Qingdao, Shandong 266003, China. E-mail:

Feeding behavior is regulated by a complex network of endogenous neuropeptides. In chordates, this role is suggested to be under the control of diverse factors including thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). However, whether this regulatory activity of TRH is functionally conserved in non-chordate metazoans, and to what extent this process is underpinned by interactions of TRH with other neuropeptides such as cholecystokinin (CCK, known as a satiety signal), remain unclear.

The impact of COVID-19 infection on thyroid function.

Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand)

January 2025

Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine, College of Medicine, University of AlQadisiyah, Iraq.

Extensive research on COVID-19 has revealed a notable link between the disease and thyroid disorders, highlighting complex interactions between thyroid hormones, immunomodulatory signaling molecules within the thyroid gland, and viral infections. This study evaluated the relationship between thyroid function and COVID-19 in Iraqi patients at Adiwaniyah Teaching Hospital. The cohort for this investigation comprised all patients who were admitted to the isolation center at the Teaching Hospital during the timeframe extending from January 2024 to June 2024.

Electronic address:

The potential health effects of exposure to rare earth elements (REEs) remain largely unexplored. This prospective cohort study aimed to elucidate the association between early pregnancy REE exposure and maternal thyroid function, as well as neonatal birth outcomes, in a cohort of pregnant women in Beijing, China. Additionally, the study explored the mediating role of thyroid homeostasis in the effects of REE exposure.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests and activities. The aim of this study was to determine the postnatal levels of thyroid hor-mones and investigate their association with the severity of ASD symptoms. The study included 56 children (46 boys and 10 girls) with ASD aged 24-42 months.

Bailing capsule alleviates autoimmune thyroiditis regulating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor signaling pathway: a multi-omics analysis.

J Tradit Chin Med

December 2024

State Key Laboratory for Quality Ensurance and Sustainable Use of Dao-di Herbs, Artemisinin Research Center, and Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing 100700, China.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy and potential mechanism of Bailing capsule (, BL) anti-autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT).

Methods: Based on the AIT rat model, the effect of BL in alleviating AIT was evaluated by detecting serum thyroid index free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), and inflammatory factors Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), Interleukin-4, -10, and -12 (IL-4, IL-10, and IL-12) as well as thyroid tissue Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and ultrastructure observation. The mechanism of BL was explored by combining transcriptome and proteome analysis, and further verified by Western blot (WB).
