To study the regulation of Escherichia coli adenylate cyclase, plasmids that carry part of the cya gene, as well as plasmids containing hybrid genes having part of cya fused to part of lacZ, were constructed. This allowed us to propose that the enzyme is made of at least two well-defined domains. The NH2 terminus carries the ATP leads to cAMP catalytic activity, whereas the COOH-terminal end corresponds to a regulatory polypeptide domain.

Women are known to have twice as much lifetime prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as men do. It has been reported that the risk genotype (CC) of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (rs2267735) in the pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP-PAC1R) system is associated with PTSD risk and altered fear conditioning and fear extinction in women. Surprisingly, no previous work has studied the effect of this SNP on fear conditioning, extinction, or generalization in non-traumatized/low trauma load women.

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl), made by neutrophil-derived myeloperoxidase, has been suggested to inhibit platelets, however, the mechanisms involved have not been described. Here we confirm that HOCl exposure changes platelet morphology and inhibits platelet spreading and aggregation. HOCl effects could be reversed by glutathione suggesting a role for cysteine oxidation.
